PJ Stock is one of my favorite fighters of all time. The thing I liked most about him is he was all offense, fought guys who are much much bigger than him, and generally did really well. He’s definitely one of those “best pound for pound” guys, and a real treat to watch. His fighting style was all out. He forced guys to throw away any notions of defense and just start chucking as fast as they can, or they’d eat several shots before even getting a block in. I think he also adds a hell of a lot of personality to CBC’s intermission broadcasts too, for a guy who just relays game highlights.
I stumbled on some good footage of him from a while back where he was interviewed in length and talked about his fighting. It also has a tribute video to him afterwards (complete with awful music choice) so you can catch more of his fights. Pretty cool.
Oilers. Wild. 2 more games to go (including this one). Then the next thing we can be excited for is the draft lottery results which take place on April 12th. I had no idea it was that soon, but I just got an e-mail from the Oilers, stating it to be true.
Anyways, I don’t predict tonight’s game to have any excitement too it, therefore you get a pretty lame pre-game rant.
Just watched the recent Bond movie, so here you go!
The Oilers locked up 30th place last night. Yay…
But the Flames are out, Leafs are out and the Canucks have just lost 2 in a row to the worst team in the league so that makes me slightly happy. I wonder if they are shitting themselves because the Blackhawks are currently 8th?
In Oilers news, Eberle got 42 points, and subsequently got smashed by Torres. Dammit Torres, you know that’s only cool when you do that to a non-Oiler, particularly during the playoffs (Hi Michalek!). He has a hearing today however, where he will probably get 2 games.
In other league news, how awesome is Turco for gambling with a fan? I think this is great however the league will not think highly of it.
And Callahan broke his leg/foot blocking a Chara shot…balls man, balls.
Sadly, Mandi Schwartz died from leukemia on the weekend. Mandi was the sister of Jaden who competed for Canada at the WJC. That sucks. Condolences to the family.
Oh, and I guess the Islanders are allowing Nabokov to play for Russia the the WC, however from what I read he will be required to report to them next year. Can’t remember where I read that, but pretty sure it was from a legit source.
And finally, a gift for you all found on the internets:
Tonight is as big of a “playoff” game as we’ll get to see this year. Winning this game would put the final nail in the coffin of the Calgary Flames’ playoff hopes. Wouldn’t that be nice? The Oilers are in a little danger of passing the Avalanche, but they’d have to run the table and the Avalanche would have to lose all their remaining games in regulation time. Each team has 3 games left. I think we’re pretty safe here, especially with the Wild coming up later. Although, we do play the Avalanche as one of our final 3… so that will be a very important game.
Anyways, I’m really hoping for a win tonight, so I’m going to send some good vibes with my prediction. Plus Alan-NottsUK will be at the game, and he’s money (currently seen 3 Oil games live and we’ve won all 3).
Prediction: 5-1 Oilers, if Dubnyk starts again. 5-4 if Khabi starts.
Boy was I ever wrong with my prediction of the outcome of last game. Then again.. how many times have I been right? And then again, who actually thought the 30th place Oilers (made up of AHLers right now) would actually beat the Vancouver Canucks? It was fairly reminiscent of the pre-season, when the Oilers beat them (although that was a romp, and against a less than stacked Canucks team).
Anyways, I am hoping for another win tonight, so that will be my prediction. I must say, I am skeptical though. But we’ll call it a close one this time.
Prediction: 4-3 Edmonton
P.S., decided to change the game day pic up, so people would notice a new GDT was up (yes.. that is Roli).
