Monday Morning Standings – Round 2

Another Bond lady...

And no rest for the wicked…round 2 starts tonight!

Round 1 of these playoffs had to have been the most exciting since the legendary spring of ’06. Only thing that would have made it better was if Chi-town could have finished that amazing comeback. Round 2 will need to be epic to match that awesomeness…but with a Bruins/Flyers series and Red Wings/Sharks series it should be pretty good.

Anyways, I’ll try and force Racki to put up another prediction post, but if not I’m picking Detroit, Nashville, Washington and Philadelphia all in 6 games. In the last prediction post, I nailed the east (maybe missed the number of games here and there) but absolutely booted the west…maybe I should start watching more western conference games! Damn eastern biases.

EDITED BY RACKI: Since I’m too lazy to put up another prediction post, I will pick the following:
Predators in 6, Detroit in 6, Washington in 5, Philadelpha in 7… exactly what I went with in HL’s pool.

Nothing new on the Oilers front except for some picks being signed to ELC’s. Can’t wait for the draft.

Wait! Eberle and Dubnyk are playing for Canada at the WC. Eberle got a point in the exhibition against France while Dubnyk looked a little shaky from what I saw of the highlights. Lets go Canada!

The rest of the MMS:

Quick hits – 2011/04/21

2011 NHL Entry Draft notes and more..

Some 2011 NHL Entry Draft notes and more..

Just a few quick notes on some articles I saw today on the Edmonton Journal website.

Adam Larsson

First, Adam Larsson. I like that he’s done his research. He of course knows his fellow Swede countrymen are here (Paajarvi and Omark, plus likely Lander soon). But he knows the history, our 5 cups, and the new players like Taylor Hall. He sounds like he would be genuinely happy to be here, and I like the kids attitude.

Sean Couturier

On to Sean Couturier, in which Jim Matheson addresses a question about Couturier dropping in draft rank. There wasn’t a lot here, but I just thought it interesting that Matheson mentioned that the Oilers likely wouldn’t draft Couturier because they are more interested in Ryan Nugent-Hopkins or Adam Larsson. I can’t say that the Oilers would Continue reading 'Quick hits – 2011/04/21'»

Monday Morning Standings

By , April 18, 2011 1:06 pm

Just recently started watching Community...funny show. Great talent.

Playoffs are on! Holy crap have I missed games that matter. And good hockey too. Although my predictions are going to shit.

Canucks are up on the Blackhawks 3-0. I didn’t see this happening. Don’t want to see this happening. Canuck fans are a pain in the ass as it is, now they are becoming unbearable.

Sharks and LA are tied 1-1 in their series, but I have watched these games and really the Sharks should be up 2-0. They are just outplaying LA.

Caps lead the Rangers 2-1. Close games, and I think that if the Rangers win the next game the Caps are in trouble.

Buffalo and Flyers are tied 1-1. Miller has been lights out.

Detroit is leading Phoenix 2-0. Datsyuk is ridiculous. Best player these playoffs so far.

The Preds are up on the Ducks 2-1. Didn’t see this coming either, I figured that the Ducks would win this pretty easily. But Rinne and Weber have been real good. Selanne has been great too.

Canadiens are up 2-0 on the Bruins. Really didn’t see this coming. At all. I figured the Bruins were a lock for the conference finals. It all hinges on this next game for the Bruins.

And finally, the Pens and Lightning are tied 1-1 in a series I have absolutely no interest in.

In Oilers news, they have just signed Curtis Hamilton to an entry level deal, following Pitlick who signed last week.

In league news, Torres demolished Seabrook with a hit and didn’t get suspended. Other than my absolute hatred of the Canucks, I’m pretty much thinking its a good call. Keep your head up kid! Especially coming around the net. That said, Torres is starting to be known for these predatory hits so I wouldn’t be surprised should he get all sorts of crap coming his way now.

Phoenix will move to Winnipeg, supposedly as soon as the end of their playoffs. I wonder how many people show up to their game tonight?

Bobby Ryan stomped on foot and was suspended for 2 games. Not the brightest move.

And here are the final regular season standings:

Will the franchise be returned to Winnipeg as early as this month?

Will the franchise be returned to Winnipeg as early as this month?

So, many have been talking about the Coyotes potentially moving to Winnipeg. TSNs “The Reporters” addressed that topic today on the show. Here is what they had to say: Continue reading 'Panelists of TSN’s “The Reporters” confident Phoenix is Winnipeg bound..'»

Tambellini interviewed..

By , April 13, 2011 8:41 pm
I will figure you out one day, Mr. Tambellini....

I will figure you out one day, Mr. Tambellini....

So today Steve-O mentioned something to me that sent me in a bit of a panic. It was something along the lines of “Tambellini said that he isn’t going to be a player in free agency”. Our first thought was along the lines of “oh great, another year of abysmal failure.” But I dug up the interview (which I’m sure many of you have read now) and it’s actually a lot better than it sounds….

Tambellini actually said that he is not going to persue the big “$10 Million agent”. This is absolutely the correct thing for him to think. However, I would have to think that at this point, you’d have to be a complete moron (sorry to anyone out there that disagrees) to think that we should be pursuing a big name free agent anyways, at this stage. So, no bonus marks for Tambellini here.. just a simple check mark in the “isn’t being a dipshit for thinking we need a big money free agent” box.

So what else good did he have to say? Continue reading 'Tambellini interviewed..'»
