PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers are driving on fumes now. I see the effort there, but really they just don’t have the right players in the line up to get it done. So tonight will again be about watching some youngsters. This time it’s not about Eberle/Paajarvi/Hall/Omark, it’s about Hartikainen and, to a lesser extent, Vande Velde. Hartikainen has been earning a lot of respect from Oilers fans for his gritty play. He also has a decent nose for the net too, it would seem. He recorded his first career point (an assist) against Phoenix a couple of games ago. I’m hoping we see a goal from him before the year is up.
Back to the usual suspects, Paajarvi has been a force as of late, now that it’s become obvious that there aren’t many other players on this team that can get it done. He notched an assist against Colorado in the last game, and a goal in the game before (Phoenix). But more notably, he had 8 shots against Colorado. The effort has definitely been there from him.
The Preds are on a 3-game winning streak, and have been a strong 6-2-2 in their last 10. The Oilers have struggled to win with such a young line up. I predict another tough one to watch tonight.
Prediction: 4-1 Predators

*sigh*
So far, it definitely looks like a half NHL/AHL team vs a Playoff team…
and please, please, Ebs – shake off that shot, and keep skating…
Yay… Ebs is out for his shift…
*sigh of relief*
oops, forgot to open up the chat thing. It’s already 3rd period, and I’m guessing nobody missed it anyways since it’s been dead in there most nights.
I’m liking what I see from Paajarvi/Omark line as well as Hartikainen’s line.. lots of hard work.
Hartikainen looked good for sure, and yeah, Omark/Paajarvi looked dangerous. Omark really played well in both ends IMO.
Damn. Hemsky, Horcoff, Gagner, Hall, Whitney out. Penner gone. Tonight I saw a lot of try, just not enough NHLers. I just hope eventually our prospects pay the dividends from so much playing time in the bigs.
I caught the end of the first and most the second and I must say they were sure putting on the pressure. Would have been nice to see Van Velde in a fight but ah well. I must say, when our team becomes healthy in the future, I’ll feel fairly comfortable when I hear a call-up will be playing if they play like these bunch of guys.
If we manage to only win 1/3 of our remaining games we’ll have a top two pick in this years draft.
Gotta think Foster is done for the season now. Anyone else notice him sway backwards once he got off the ice? He got his bell rung right some good.
Zack: As catastrophically bad as the Avs have been since mid-January, I think it will take a miracle for the Oilers to finish 29th. Colorado is getting at least 1 point tonight, and they have a game in hand, and a 7 point lead with that extra point. I think it’s pretty much a given.. the Oilers will finish dead last. Especially when this team is a bunch of AHL call-ups right now.
LNOF: Yah I saw that too. Concussion. Didn’t have his legs at all. He looked like Steve MacIntyre punched him while he was down on the ice.
From Joanne Ireland’s twa… that just sounds wrong.. Joanne Ireland tweeted this: “Jordan Eberle has had his right foot x-rayed (he was pelted with shot in first period). He said there wasn’t a break in the bone.”
That’s good news, although it doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t miss some games. Hopefully not though.
Yup, dare we say the “C” word? Really, it’s kinda like nurses must feel working in the ER; injuries don’t phase them anymore. I saw Foster go down & said to my tv, “Hmm, another season ending injury; where did I put my beer?”
Time for us to get a witch doctor to lift the curse like the Canucks did.
