Trade deadline approaches.. FUCK YEAH!
So, the Christmas day of the NHL approaches… the trade deadline. It’s Monday, February 28th @ 1:00PM MST. The days leading up to the deadline were actually quite excitement filled. TSN has a trade tracker page up here. I count 25 trades this month alone (26 now, as I type this.. as news just came in that Brad Boyes was dealt to Buffalo). Who even thought Erik Johnson, James Neal or Craig Anderson would be available? It’ll be interesting to see if this deadline finishes with a bang or fizzles out.
As for the Oilers, I don’t expect much at all. Foil contributor Zackman35 had a good comment today about the moves he could see the Oilers making, which inspired my list below… Continue reading 'Trade Deadline Awesomeness'»

PRE-GAME RANT
So today the Oilers face the Bruins in their only match of the 2010/11 season. The Bruins are 6-4-0 in their last 10, and the Oilers are 5-5-0. The Oil stunk the joint up against the Blues, losing 5-0 on Friday. The Oilers will get a bit of help tonight in the form of Gilbert Brule. Taylor Chorney is still out though with knee problems.
This will also mark the first matchup of 2010′s top draftees – Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin. So far Taylor Hall seems to be winning the race between the two by a landslide, but it’s definitely a marathon, as both of these guys should have long, productive careers (one can hope, anyways).
Prediction: 4-2 Oilers. Really, they should lose this one, but I generally like how we play eastern teams.

PRE-GAME RANT
Aside from the hiccup in Minny, the Oilers have been playing a much better brand of hockey over their last 5 games. The Blues have been struggling in their playoff push and are without Halak who is currently on IR. Ex Oiler Conklin will likely be between the pipes tonight but not much of our roster will know him personally from the days of yore.
Speaking of tenders, Gerber has been called up as Khabibulin has sustained an eye injury. Police are still trying to determine if it was Larry, Curly or Moe who administered the eye gouge. I guess he’ll be sitting with Chorney who also left last game after injuring his knee.
Hall and Eberle continue their hot streaks so keep an eye on them tonight. They are the future of the team, so hot or not, all eyes are on them anyway.
Prediction: Winter will be cold again next year.

PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers lost a stinker against the Wild last night. The effort was there from some of the team, but I thought that in particular, our defense was completely missing in action. Some of those goals were horrid. I’m all for giving criticism to Khabi when due, but there were a few big brain lapses where a wild player was in alone on him.
Anyways, the Oiler are going to have to give their collective heads a shake and get in this one. Tonight they’ll have at least two changes to the lineup: Brule is in (likely for Omark, by the sounds of it) and Strudwick is in for Chorney. I haven’t heard anything, but I would guess that Dubnyk will get the start tonight too.
The Avs sit in 2nd last in the conference, but somewhat surprisingly have 7 more wins than us.. I guess it just goes to show how bad the season has been. The Oilers have one win and one loss (in shootout) versus the Avs. I hope tonight will be another tight game between the two teams.
Prediction: 3-2 Oilers

PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers are fresh off a thrilling 5-3 victory over the Thrashers in which the Oilers battled back from a 3-1 deficit. The Oilers got some life on their powerplay finally (including a 5-on-3 goal.. at long last) thanks in part to Taylor Hall’s first career hattrick. All 3 were scored on the powerplay, in the same period, and unanswered. Hemsky put the final nail in the coffin with an empty net goal. Tonight the Oilers head into enemy territory and face a team that they’ve struggled with for a while now, especially in their building. The Oilers are 0-3 this year too against the Wild.
Will the Oilers continue to ride the high?
Prediction: 4-2 Wild
