Happy birthday to Wayne, happy birthday to Wayne, happy birthday dear Wayner, happy birthday to you. Happy 50th big guy!

Now that’s out of the way, let’s see what we’re in for tonight. Dallas Stars again…

There have been some chippy games recently between the two clubs, so look for a spirited affair tonight. Adding to the Stars’ angst they’ve been outscored 14-5 in their last two games, so hopefully the goaltending woes continue and the Oil have a big game before going into the break.

Back to Wayne, share your thoughts in the comments on some fond memories of the glory days. A few stick in my mind that weren’t all that glorious. I remember a line brawl in one game when Wayne was on the ice. Everyone had a dance partner and Wayne’s opponent respectfully pinned him to the ice and just held him there while everyone else started the lawn mowers. Another big moment in Wayne memories happened post trade and involved another Oiler. Kelly Buchberger laid Wayne out with a vicious elbow while Gretzky was with the Blues. Someone has to post some happier memories below.

Hall – Horcoff – Penner
Paajarvi – Gagner – Omark
Reddox – Cogliano – Jones
Jacques – Fraser – Stortini

Peckham – Gilbert
Smid – Petry
Vandermeer – Foster

He did a promotion with Pro Stars cereal way back in the day where you could win breakfast with him. I didn’t win :( but my aunt worked with the mom of the kid who did.

I’ve got a few snapshots and an autograph from it. I just remember being 8 years old and seeing pictures of Wayne in jeans in somebody’s backyard, and being totally blown away that “he actually looks like a real person!”

for anyone who is on twitter, so is jones now!/jonesry28

seems to be enjoying ripping on petry

One of my Wayne Gretzky moments is an autograph signing he had at Woodward’s years ago (obviously, since that place has been shut down for years). I was about 6 at the time. My sister first got an autograph, personalized to her, then went up and got one. I remember seeing mine just have his signature, and my sisters have hers addressed to her, and I started bawling. lol Gretzky ended up signing my name on it afterwards though. I’m not sure whatever happened to that picture though, although my grandma was there with us and took a picture of my pouty face .

Alan-NottsUK: yah I saw that. He enjoys ripping on Reddox too. Pretty funny guy.

  4. Bostonoiler says:

Seriously, Khabibulin sucks. I really don’t know if I can watch him play anymore. He IS the worst starter in the NHL. Great MVP you have Tambi. Please please please play Dubnyk more often Oilers!!!! Khabiboozin lets soooo many easy goals in.

  5. Racki says:

ktown: Oh I remember that contest, btw. And I used to buy the cereal too. lol

  6. hemmerlady says:

I can’t handle us losing in inverse proportion to f**king Vancouver winning. ARRGGH.
    (I loved Pro-Stars cereal)

  7. NorwegianOiler says:

These games against Dallas are starting to revive some of the old anger from the late 90s and early 00s…if only they were playoff games and not us struggling to get out of 30th spot against the Stars on a rampage.

  8. Ktown says:

Oh – I don’t know how I forgot this (it’s a birthday memory, and it’s sitting on my shelf), but when I was 7 I sent him a birthday card. 2 weeks later, I got a personalized, autographed picture with his Thank-you…

Awesome… Still have it, in a frame, on my shelf…
