Canada faces the Czech Republic for game 2. The Czechs finished 7th in last year’s tournament and won their first Preliminary Round game of the tournament (2-0 over Norway) on Monday. Canada also won their opener, a 6-3 victory over the Russians.

Olivier Roy will get the start again in goal for this game. He got appeared to get off to a tough start, but was pretty solid when the Canadians needed him to be, and made 24 saves on the night. With how well Visentin had played in the pre-competition, it is good to see them giving Roy a nod of confidence. Visentin didn’t face as tough a competition as Roy, but he was quite good in net.

Prediction for this game: 7-1 Canada (yah, Canada doesn’t have any offense this year…..)

  1. Racki says:

Visentin starts the next game, vs. Norway. Not calling them a cakewalk or anything, but it’s good to give Visentin some ice time. Definitely is a possibility that Visentin takes over the goaltending job at some point (permanently), so they best keep him fresh.

  2. Racki says:

Kassian has been suspended an extra game for the hit (i.e. 2 games total – tonight and then vs. Sweden). Here is the excerpt from TSN:

Canadian forward Zack Kassian has been suspended for two games total after receiving a match penalty on Tuesday against the Czech Republic.

Kassian received an automatic one-game ban after being assessed the match penalty for a hit to the head and neck of Czech defenceman Petr Senkerik. Tournament judge and former NHL official Dan Marouelli assessed the additional game suspension on Wednesday morning.

Kassian will miss Canada’s games tonight against Norway and Friday against Sweden. He will be eligible to return for the medal round games on the weekend.
