PRE-GAME RANT
I have to keep this one short as I have a pretty busy day today. But, the Oil hope to continue their streak tonight when they take on the Canucks. The Oilers are 7-2-1 in their last 10. They may have gotten lucky in their last game, vs. the Lightning, when Khabibulin stole one for them. The Canucks are 5-4-1 in their last 10. They also won the only regular season game between the two teams, so far, on November 2. The final score was 4-3 for the Canucks. This was of course the game in which the NHL’s most dangerous Mexican, Raffi Torres, scored a hattrick.
I’m going to venture a guess and say the fun ride stops here tonight, for the Oilers.
Prediction: 6-3 Canucks, but I hope I’m wrong.

I know this is Puttin’ on the Foil but I can’t remember the last time there was a good fight. The only notable fight this month was probably Mac vs Orr, where as the others Fraser/Penner, well they didn’t really fight. Penners’ situation was a little more understandable (he’s a skilled player) and it was nice to see his typical ‘rag the guy around’ routine but I think I’m getting a little blood thirsty here. I think once Peckhams’ hand is completely healed he might get into fights again but I think the injury has helped his development more than anything. The games are still entertaining but its a side I’m missing. It’s a dying breed.
I hope for a win tonight and a spirited tussle.
Yeah, the Vancouver games are usually pretty bitter affairs. I was actually thinking they might dress MacIntyre tonight, but I see JFJ is in, so he’s likely our “tough guy” for tonight. Still though, it would maybe have been prudent to dress Stortini as well. The problem is, who do you then sit out?
I’d be just as happy if MacIntyre never dressed for another game. I like the guy, but he’s been proven pretty much useless. I cite the Rangers game as the prime example. Sitting in the box after fighting the Rangers appointed “enforcer” while Avery works his douche-magic on Smid. If MacIntyre would go apeshit and take on the whole bench with all four of the officials hanging off of him, enemy players might think twice about doing anything questionable while Mac is in the lineup. As it is, nobody has anything to fear from big Steve.
God, I fucking hate Vancouver. I want the Oilers to win so bad that I can taste it. It tastes a lot like coffee and Bailey’s, oddly enough. I’d love to see Smid break his stick across Burrows’ skull. I loathe that piece of crap. His comments after Avery’s fight with Smid were so ignorant. Burrows wants to plant himself in Avery’s corner? Fine. Somebody hit him hard and hit him often.
Did I mention that I hate the Vancouver Canucks?
Per Tencer:
11 shots ties a franchise record for fewest shots in a game. Had been done twice previously.
edit: official scorers have added one shot to the Oilers total, so no tied record.
Lets face it, tonight the Oilers didn’t deserve the game and the better team won. I just hope the rebound on Tuesday night against the Leafs. That was a poor game tonight from them and I hope we dont see too many more stinkers like that again. Its expected tho with a rebuild. One thing that was proven tongiht is this team HAS to get a faceoff winning center, that was showen BIG time tonight. DD kept us in this game for the longest time. Again hoping for a better effort Tuesday night.
I agree with the FO winning center statement BO but at the same time, isn’t Vancouver the FO powerhouse this season (I think sportsnet mentioned it)? It just exemplifies the need with such the contrast. Also the giveaways were brutal in this game, the positive from this game is that DD looks like he can hold is own against an NHL team.
I expected a gmae like this soon tho, so lets get it out of the way now. Can’t wait for Tuesday night against the Leafs. They can beat them with a good effort. The boys said in locker room it was a bad game and effort, at least they know it and will work on it.
