PRE-GAME RANT

Well, I’ll be at this one tonight (thanks to OG77, who will be going as well), but as always the GDT chat will be up. This one is on CBC tonight, of course, and is a later one at 8:00PM.

The Oilers have been riding a high as of late, sweeping their recent road trip in the east, and having won 4 of their last 5 games (they’re 5-4-1 in their last 10, which is pretty good for the way their season has gone). Right now they’re showing signs of improving as a team, but we all fear that they’ll soon return back down to earth. The top 3 scoring lines have all been clicking well though, and the defense has looked a little more defensive and a little less lost with some better help from the forwards. So it remains to be seen if this team has turned a corner or not. The Blues were a pretty tough team to start the year, but have gone on a 4 game skid. They are 3-7-0 in their last 10, so it definitely should be a game the Oilers can win.

Btw, Khabi gets the start tonight. He of course had a shutout in the last game, and stood on his head. He actually looked like the MVP that Tambellini thought he was. Too bad he can’t do that on a consistent basis.

Prediction: 4-1 Oilers.

  1. Haboiler says:

Hemsky is out indefinitely according to Twitter. Not put on IR as of yet. If so, wonder who the callup will be. Has anyone seen the slump Giroux is in in OKC? Something like no goals in a dozen games. Thats crazy for him.

    Bad. Again.

    Omark time?

  3. Racki says:

Yah if and when Hemsky hits IR, I’m hoping for Omark too. It would be the right thing to do for him, IMHO. Is it the right thing to do for OKC though is another question that would make it hard for them to do that.

That sucks about Giroux though, and is pretty strange for a guy with that level of AHL talent.

  4. MetalOil says:

    That Sucks about Hemsky, Damn.

    I see two options here.
    1) Finally give OMark his chance and play him in a top 9 role, Possibly to showcase him for a trade.
2)Call up Reddox for 4th line duty and giving Paajarvi expanded minutes.

  5. NorwegianOiler says:

Well, if Hemmer’s out for an extended period of time, Omark should, if nothing else, get the call to help our dismal power play.

  6. Bostonoiler says:

Looks like Hemsky must have hurt himself in the game at Montreal. Had to hurt himself in that one. Its too bad, was really liking his game and when he came back from the last injury and got 3 points I thought there was no stopping him. IF a callup is needed, it has to be baby Hemsky, aka Linus Omark. Give the kid a chance. Glad to see Khabi is starting tonight, liked his game on Thursday night. Heres to hoping for a win, but I won’t make any predictions.

Yup. There is no excuse to not call him up. Do it and see how he does. If he’s not ready, send him back down, but yeah, great timing for Omark (hopefully).

I like option 2 but it also doesnt make much sense. As far as i am concerned Magnum should be Hemmers winger. With Hemmer out i would perfer Penner up with him. Keep cogs far away from Magnum or hes going to develop into a nothing– he will get lots of practice on how to try to wipe the butts of centres who cant play the position etc.

Guess Hemmer came back too soon from his groin injury. Not good, sounds like it could be a while.

So I read that Khabi’s SO was the first ever by an Oilers goalie against the Leafs. Good for him, let’s hope he can keep that MVP play up tonight.

Edit – per MO, first SO in TO by Oiler goalie

  10. Bostonoiler says:

Nice win tonight. Khabi once again looked like Tambi’s MVP, which is a very good thing. The whole team went out and played hard and really gave it a complete effort. Whatta nice goal by Hall too in order to seal the win. Great game tonight by the Oilers!!! Also, since I’m all over him as of late, tonight I will say that Tom Gilbert played very well on the backend. On top of that, Cogliano is really playing well too. This team looks good right now, and hopefully they keep it up. See you all Tuesday night when the Ducks roll on in.

  11. MetalOil says:

Andy Mac is now out indefinitely with a concussion after that fall into Horcoff’s leg. He is the 4th player on the Blues to go down with a concussion so far this year.
