General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have assigned left-winger Linus Omark to Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League.
Had to know this was coming. My advice to Omark… work on playing a team game rather than Linus Omark Hockey. Take a lesson from Rob Schremp. There is potential there though, but he has to become a better team player.
UPDATE: Shawn Belle has been recalled for the Oilers. I figured they’d call someone up, but wasn’t sure if it would be a d-man. Good to see. I assume Belle and Petry will be reunited. I’m interested in how the two fair together at the NHL level. Could be risky to pair them up though at this level.

This game is huge. In the pre-competition game between these two teams, Canada did win by a score of 4-1. However it should be noted that Sweden spent a crazy amount of time in the box (some of the penalties were outrageous). They had 12 penalties to our 5, but still managed to outshoot us 30-25. Expect a tough and much closer game. Both of these teams are undefeated in the preliminary round. The winner of this game will earn a bye into the Semi-final round.
Jaden Schwartz (fractured ankle – likely done for the tournament) and Zack Kassian (suspended for previous game and this game) will be absent from this game. The Canadians had a line up that looked like Swiss cheese when they faced the Norwegians. With any hope, all but these Continue reading 'WJHC 2011 GDT – Canada 5, Sweden 6 (SO) – Game 4 – 2010-12-31 @ 2:00PM MST – TSN'»

PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers injury woes continue yet again. I’ll get this over with quickly, ripping it off like a band-aid. Things are bad for Ryan Whitney, reports are saying. Don’t expect him back anytime soon. He is in a cast and surgery might be down the road. Per Joanne Ireland: “Whitney may have dislocated ankle tendon.”
Whitney is really disappointed: “For 3 yrs I was pretty much unhealthy & playing mediocre hockey … I got back to the player I know I can be, then this happens. I finally feel Continue reading 'GDT Oilers 3, Avalanche 4 (SO) – Game 36 – 2010-12-30 @ 7:30 PM – TSN'»

Quite possibly the most crass picture we have had here, but it gave me a chuckle.
Click here for Canada vs. Norway GDT
So I know there’s been some talk lately here and elsewhere about the state of the team. We currently sit at the bottom of the Western Conference standings. We have the worst penalty-kill in the league at 72.3%, and one of the worst powerplays in the league (25th) at 15.6%.
However, some things need to be brought up again, so it’s time for a rant… Continue reading 'A message to the impatient fan…'»

OK, so for starters… Zack Kassian was ejected from the last game for a hit to the head of Czech defenseman Petr Senkerik in yesterday’s game. Dan Marouelli ruled that he will also miss the following game against Sweden. I think he got it right. If you watch the replays, Kassian clearly hits Senkerik in the head. We can dispute whether or not Kassian intentionally did it (I don’t think he did), but that doesn’t really mean anything. Let’s bear in mind too, this is the World Juniors, not prison rules. Rules are a bit more strict in this tournament, as they should be. They need to protect these future stars. Anyways, Puck Daddy did up a
