The Oil head back into the united center tonight for another match against the Chicago Blackhawks. Last time they were there (Oct. 29), things went very well for the Oilers, as they won 7-4 in a pretty wild game, where they pretty much dominated the Hawks. Khabibulin also played a pretty solid game as well. The Oilers weren’t perfect, but when most people (myself included) were predicting an ugly loss to the Hawks, you’ll take an imperfect win. Especially one where we put on our best offensive showing of the season.

Last game vs. Chicago, the Oilers saw 2-point performance from each of the young kids, plus the grizzly old veteran – Sam Gagner. Will we see that again tonight?

Prediction: Hawks wake up this time and get the better of us in a 4-3 game.

Despite finishing in the basement last season, the Oilers took 3 of 4 meetings against the Wings. Motor City will probably enjoy their trip to Oil Country this time around though. The Red Wings (7-2-1) are playing great hockey right now so it will a tough game for the Oilers (3-5-2) to pull out, so if we’re going 3 of 4 this year, I expect tonight might be that loss. The Oil showed some great fight last game after giving up an early lead, but no way can we go down 3-0 and expect to win games. A strong first period will be the key to any success tonight.

Datsyuk will be a player to watch tonight. He’s had a solid start and has 8 points in his last 6 games. Our boy Ebs is trying to keep up with 6 points in his last 7.

Prediction: Heartache…

Monday Morning Standings

By , November 3, 2010 8:06 am

I like Halloween.

And here we go again. This would have been up yesterday, but there was the game day going up, so here it is today. It totally has nothing to do with me being lazy or anything.

The Oilers are playing about as good as can be expected with the team they have. A win against Chicago, scoring every time they gained access to the zone (and almost letting in as many), along with some real close games. Although it has to be a concern that we feel the need to spot the other team 2 to 3 goals in order to make it interesting at the end. Renney needs to kick that fair play, everyone has fun attitude out the door so we can start winning.

In other NHL news, Parise is now out for 3 months causing pain and suffering for all of his fantasy team owners.

Quasimodo sucks, got boo’ed and then got injured…oh well.

Eberle didn’t win the rookie of the month, with that going to Neuvirth (spelling?) in Washington.

McGrattan calls Neil a pussy.

Briere doesn’t think that attempted cross checking should be a 3 game suspension.

Jordan Staal got injured again, and will now miss another 6 weeks.

And that’s all I can think of right now. Oh yeah, Hall got his first goal.

Alrighty folks. Big break again since our last game on Friday, so I’m excited as hell for this one. Just when we get some momentum going, the league throws us a curveball of some time off. Hopefully this hasn’t cause the Oil to cool off. They won big in Chicago (7-4) after putting together a more honest effort (than previous games) against the Flames in a shootout loss. Let’s hope that they keep things going and take it to the Canucks.

Prediction: 5-1 Oilers (I’m crazy) Continue reading 'GDT: Oilers 3, Canucks 4 – Game 10 – 2010-11-02 @ 7:00 PM – SNET'»

And the winner of the backup is….

Not you... but nice save, Jeff

Not you... but nice save, Jeff

The Oilers have made their goaltending decision, at last…. Jeff Deslauriers has been placed on waivers. I think they made the right choice. I kind of figured that was what happened when Delsauriers was said to be not at practice today. MacIntyre and Whitney also absent.. hmm…….. some sort of deal in the works? Nah, just trying to scare you folks (Whitney is taking a “rest day” – which I’d say he needed). I wonder if a callup will be made though. Jacques will be back in a couple of weeks (apparently), so they could be making room for him, but I’ll suspect that they’ll bring someone up in the meantime. If waivers are no issue, I hope it’s Belle or Reddox.
