PRE-GAME RANT

After the desert dogs stole a win in our house, the Oil look to return the favor. Less than a week ago the Oilers led at home 3-0 by the Coyotes clawed their way back with 3 unanswered goals of their own to force overtime and eventually take the win in a shootout. Many Oilers have had their fathers accompanying the team on the short road trip and it seems to have worked so far after a road win in Ananheim. Another win, and they may have to hire them on permanently.

The inability to score…

By , November 22, 2010 12:01 pm

Heaven called, they're missing an angel.

So…  Much like my nerdy pizza faced alter ego from my high school days of yore, I once shared a quality with Ryan Whitney.  The inability to score.

No one can claim he hasn’t contributed to the offence with 17 assists in 19 games, 6 of those coming on the powerplay, but after botching a clear shot at the empty net last night, one has to wonder just how long the drought may continue.  Maybe next time he’ll skate the puck all the way into the net instead of pushing it wide from the blue line.

The most assists tallied by a defenceman in a single season were a whopping 102 by Bobby Orr in the 1970-71 season.  I don’t think we can expect to see that again anytime soon, but Whitney’s white knuckled gripping of the stick last night got me wondering who the current record holder is for most assists in a season without bulging the twine.  The answer to that trivia question <insert drumroll> Damn it!!!  No one seems to have researched this yet!!!  Guess I’ll have to do some leg work…

Next Oil Change 2010/11/23 @ 5:30 MT

By , November 22, 2010 11:32 am

Episode 2 of the 6 part series (note: the pilot isn’t counted as an episode, apparently) airs Tuesday, November 23rd at 5:30 MT on TSN.

These past two shows were great and I highly recommend not missing them, as they give a bit of insight into what managements thought process has been (which, unexpectedly, actually exists).

PRE-GAME RANT

The Oilers play the next two games on the road. Sometimes a road trip is good for ending a string of bad luck, sometimes its even worse for it. In this case, I think it will do the team some good as they already showed signs of recovery from the last game (and the rollercoaster ride continues). It was a 4-3 shootout loss vs. Phoenix, but the Oilers got off to a rare good start in the first period and held a 3-0 lead by mid-period 2. The Oil let the lead slip away though, and lost it in the shootout. Definitely not good, but there were a lot of strengths in this game. For one, our special teams were actually good. The first goal was by Hemsky, on the PK. The second goal was Continue reading 'GDT: Oilers 4, Ducks 2 – Game 19 – 2010-11-21 @ 6:00 PM – SNET'»
