Captain Obvious

Lucky #13... Horcoff becomes the 13th Captain in Oilers history

Lucky #13... Horcoff becomes the 13th Captain in Oilers history

This is almost anti-climatic, as we all figured he should get it. But they don’t always get these things right. Congrats to the 13th captain in Oilers history. Hopefully that number is more lucky for him. I predict some “ditch the captain” posts before long in other forums/blogs… but I’ve always been a big support of Horcules.

The Edmonton Oilers have named Shawn Horcoff as their new captain, making him the 13th player to wear the “C” since the team joined the NHL in 1979.

The 32-year-old centre is entering his 10th NHL season, all with the Oilers. Drafted in the 4th round (99th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, the 6’1”, 208 pound native of Trail, British Columbia has scored 374 points (133G, 241A) with 417 penalty minutes in 637 career games.

Is Horcoff the best choice for Captain?

Tick tock on Souray…

What to do with this guy..

What to do with this guy..

Sheldon Souray still sits on our roster, taking up a spot, as we all know. Teams must submit their 23-man opening game rosters prior to the season starting, which is October 7th (i.e. Thursday… 2 days from now). This might force Tambellini’s hand.

Bob McKenzie already described the Oilers’ options in a fine article, so I won’t re-spew that, but I’ll summarize and re-update the options.

For starters, Souray has already cleared waivers… so it would stand to reason that regular waivers are no longer an option. So that leaves just a few possibilities here: Continue reading 'Tick tock on Souray…'»

Final training camp roster cuts…

By , October 4, 2010 9:59 am

Liam Reddox and Ryan O’Marra are the first names cut so far. Stay tuned for more….

Edit: Cuts are: Shawn Belle, Richard Petiot, Ben Ondrus, Liam Reddox, Alex Giroux and Ryan O’Marra. No word on Omark yet. All these guys have to clear waivers too.

Edit 2: Linus Omark and Chris Vande Velde are also cut. They don’t have to clear waivers and have been assigned to OKC. Omark none too happy about it…

This leaves our final roster at (assuming JFJ is on the IR and Souray is gone before season start):

2nd Annual POTF Hockey Pool Drafts Complete

Let the winning begin..

Let the winning begin..

Thanks to all of you who came out and joined the 2nd annual Putting On The Foil Hockey Pool drafts. We’re thinking about making this one a keeper pool (meaning we keep a certain number of guys when we do it again next year) but we’re not sure on that just yet (nor sure how to do it with a Yahoo pool).

Anyways, here are the picks you losers made, for posterity’s sake: Continue reading '2nd Annual POTF Hockey Pool Drafts Complete'»
