PRE-GAME
The Oilers had back into Calgary tonight to take on the Calgary Flames. The last outing was a pretty poor one, as the Flames beat us 5-3… although the score probably shouldn’t have been that close. The Oilers played a good half of a game, at best, and were dominated yet again in the faceoff circle.
So we’re back to thinking the Oilers are a basement dweller again… welcome to the roller coaster ride. I’m going to have to figure that the Oilers put up a much better effort against Calgary tonight than the last game (both their last game – against SJ – and their last game against the Flames). I still question whether that will be enough. So I’m going to go with a 4-2 Calgary win here, although I think the Oilers will show a very spirited effort (oh god, please).

Jenn Sterger... boner pic recipient
Well, since we have a game day thread up tomorrow and not much to talk about today, I figured I’d crack the whip on Steve-O to get a Monday Morning Standings post up on a monday morning, for once. But he says he has to do work. I mean.. come on… work? At work? Really? Fine then. But credit to him for at least finding a picture.
So the top stories for the week: Continue reading 'Monday Morning Standings (MMS) – Oct 25 / 2010'»

Oklahoma City Barons on CBC
Just a reminder this game is on… starting up a thread in case anyone wants to talk about it. I’ll be watching it and taking some notes.
OKC Barons line-up (best as I can figure – wingers/center might be swapped around, but I think I got who is playing with whom): Continue reading 'Oklahoma City Barons 3, Hamilton Bulldogs 2 (OT) – 11AM MST on NHL Network / CBC'»

PRE-GAME
So the Oil invite the Sharks into their territory for the first time this year. The Oilers are coming off a tough 4-2 loss to Minnesota… one that somehow slipped away, mostly due to a bad start to the game. I’ll be at the game again, so I’m hoping for a good one. And I think I’ll get to see a good one. I think the last game was very positive, and the team just has to take it that way and not get down on themselves and just do what they did Thursday… except maybe keep things more simple on the powerplay.
I’ll guess 5-4 Oilers.

This graph actually took me forever to do... be impressed.
So I figured I’d point it out, but the Oilers have had 5 games so far, and I’m not so sure there is a coincidence that they have been terrible in games where they have been equally terrible in the faceoff circle.
Game 1 vs. Calgary, the Oilers played fantastic and dominated the play. Overall on the night, they were 52% on the dot (which, granted, is marginally ahead). Horcoff did struggle on special teams draws, however. Aside from that Continue reading 'The Oil and faceoffs…'»
