Final training camp roster cuts…
Liam Reddox and Ryan O’Marra are the first names cut so far. Stay tuned for more….
Edit: Cuts are: Shawn Belle, Richard Petiot, Ben Ondrus, Liam Reddox, Alex Giroux and Ryan O’Marra. No word on Omark yet. All these guys have to clear waivers too.
Edit 2: Linus Omark and Chris Vande Velde are also cut. They don’t have to clear waivers and have been assigned to OKC. Omark none too happy about it…
This leaves our final roster at (assuming JFJ is on the IR and Souray is gone before season start):

Oh, and to re-phrase Cato, “Strudwicko/Carthago delenda est”…
Not because he’s not a great guy, but because he’s being embarassed out there. Petiot should have stayed, easy as that.
Yah, my rant on Big Mac is he has to start taking a page from Jacques. I’m not sure he has it in him, but he said himself he wants to go out every shift and hit at least 1 guy out there. And it might sound small, but I think that would make him pretty effective. Hard to do though when you aren’t the fleetest of foot / agile.
All Oilers clear waivers. As per twitter (Tencer and Rishaug).
Also mentions that the lines are looking like:
Hall-Horcoff-Eberle
Penner-Gagner-Hemsky
Cogliano-Brule-Paajarvi
I tend to agree with NO on this. It seems the competition in camp was great, but the players still played small against the Flames, who really were the first NHL team they faced.
I think we’ll find out in a real hurry the effectiveness of the lineup. Again, I’m thinking it’s a lottery year, which is to be expected I guess, but some bigger, meaner players who can play would have been nice too.
Linus just wasnt very strong on the puck, even against 1/4 NHL teams. I didnt expect him to make the big squad. He is NOT ready. He needs to go to OKC and work on boards and corner game and learn to adapt to…as Hartikainen said “the boards and corners are there alot faster”, meaning you have far less space and time. I pointed out a few times before camp that Eberle finds holes and is solid on the walls and corners and that Magnum likes to go N/S and only goes E W to get in holes and accelerate. Magnum and Eberle came into camp with a clear advantage over Linus.
LInus needs to pack on a more solid foundation next summer but he could get a call up.
Surprised about Reddox, he was very impressive.
Petiot over Struds. *shakes head*. Struds should have been cut and sent to be a good guy on the farm.
Meh.
I was actually surprised that they knocked on Petiot’s foot speed and his (lack of) physicality. Those were two things about him that surprised me in games I saw. I thought he skated up ice quite well, and he threw a pretty huge hit in front of me in the Phoenix game, I believe it was. But maybe I just “saw him good” in those cases.
Agree with you Racki, I found it a bit odd that Petiot would get the feedback he did…I thought he played a solid 2-way role, including a few nice hits and some rushes with the puck. He looked quite confident out there.
…“Strudwicko/Carthago delenda est”…
(Can Souray be assigned to Stockton?
)
I don’t see why he couldn’t be assigned to Stockton. And I’m not sure why they wouldn’t be content to do that. lol Far enough away from our real prospects.. no offense to the Stockton players.
