GDT: Oilers 3, Canucks 2 – Pre-season Game 1 – 2010-09-22 @ 8:00 PM – SNET ONE

Knocked him the f--- out!!!!
Well, it’s the first game of the pre-season… this should be exciting. Or not… our team is laden with knuckle draggers and grinders, while the Canucks are icing a good team. But here are the lineups (per Jason Gregor at Oilers Nation).
Edmonton Oilers lineup
Alex Giroux/Shawn Horcoff/Jordan Eberle
Greg Stewart/Brad Moran/Zack Stortini
Colin McDonald/Ryan O’Marra/Teemu Hartikainen
Steve MacIntyre/Chris Vande Velde/Ben Ondrus
Ryan Whitney/Jeff Petry
Jim Vandermeer/Theo Peckham
Taylor Chorney/Jake Taylor
Devan Dubnyk
Martin Gerber
Vancouver Canucks lineup
D.Sedin/H. Sedin/Shirokov
Raymond/Kesler/Samuelsson
Schaefer/Bolduc/Desbiens
Volpatti/Perrault/Oreskovic
Hamhuis/Edler
Albers/Ehrhoff
L. Sweatt/Connaughton or
(Ellington-Ramsay)
Luongo
Schneider
Should be an ugly one. I like the looks of our top line, but beyond that it’s pretty weak. Come on Doobie….
POST GAME SUMMARY
Grit. Determination. Guys wanting to win an NHL spot. That’s what this game was about tonight. Great performance by the Oil tonight, highlight by solid goaltending by Gerber, a strong game by the top line, some offensive power from unlikely sources such as the 4th line, and a nice beatdown by O’Marra on Connaughton. The Oil dominated most of this game, on some great performances by the blue collar guys. I was pretty impressed with Giroux as well too.. he’s a guy I’ll be keeping a close eye on.
Also, do the Oilers have an incredibly fortunate offensive blueline trio of Whitney, Gilbert and Foster, or what? I expect some big points from them, so long as they stay healthy.

Scores!!!
Nice moves Ebs… beauty move to freeze the D, although it didn’t end up working in the end.
Ben Ondrus…interesting, don’t even know who he is?
Luongo sure does, now.
Pecks is hitting, that’s what we need to see from him.
Not too bad of a fight. I thought Taylor won it until they showed the replay. I’d give that to Volpatti
That fight was for Bell!!
Dive on Shirokov there..
nice.. they got it
Nice!
The deadly Peckham / Vandermeer PP
Wtf? Burrows commentating?
Is he on the Canucks feed? LOL
Looking pretty good so far tonight !!!
Wow, quite a second PP unit…yikes!
Yup. I couldn’t understand a word he said, either.
Ondrus with an early goal. Just found a feed so I’ll watch a little bit of this one
Nice work by Ebs, like the compete level in this kid, nice save also by baby food.
Thanks for the link Chucker! It’s a little stuttery on my computer but beggars can’t be choosers lol.
Tried the video feed, thx folks, but think I’ll stick with CHED, already have a splitting headache and the racing video isn’t helping my head. Plus I have a report due tomorrow.
New PBP guy Michaels seems to be on the ball so far.
Shut up Burrows.
Wow, what a shift by the top line.
And you know what… I’m impressed with Giroux… this guy’s got some game. Bad skater or not, he still might be an alright NHLer.
Wow, Eberle just got FLATTENED. But he’s back up.
Close Horcoff
Is it too soon to laugh at the Canucks for having difficulty with this weak Oilers lineup?
I wish they’d mic up Horcoff during these pre-season games. Would love to hear what he says to the kids from the bench.
Oh man, beauty hit by McDonald on Ehrhoff
Nice shift for Chorney
Nice job Storts
Really good period for this weaker Oil team.
Final shots on the period.. Oilers 15.. Vancouver 8.
Yup so far so good. When I saw the line-ups for this game I figured the Oilers would get schooled by the Sedins in the 1st, it was pretty much the opposite
Holy welcome to the NHL on Eberle there. lol
Good feed. I’m also watching LA Ink right now too. Left eye on the tv, right eye on the feed.
I think the Sedins are still pretty dominant, but the other lines don’t seem to be doing squat and the Oilers are getting good performances out of everybody. I love it.
I am going to reiterate that I’m infatuated with this Giroux character…. I like what I see. Offensively, he’s like a poor man’s Penner – very active stick, good hands / stickhandling, and knows exactly where to be. Seems physical too.
Man this Leafs/Sens games has some good highlights with the rough stuff.
Nice…Kat Von D
So being that I can’t really watch the feed “realtime”, can someone tell me how Gerber looks? I know he’s only had to stop 8 or 9 shots but were they weak shots or good stops? He’ll probably be busier in the beginning of the 2nd.
He looks fine.. no issues that I’ve noticed
Oh man.. Horcoff…. almost. Nice partial breakaway. Love what I’m seeing from him so far this camp.
Oh how I hope Quinn is right about Hemsky having a H. Sedin like breakout year.
Ouch, 4 Goals on 8 shots against Carey Price tonight. Refused to speak to media afterward. So begins the Halak-Less era of the MTL Canadians. They are so gonna regret that trade with the Blues.
He does look rejuvenated but it’s the “almost” part that has me worried already.
Liking the pace and systems play. Also, Giroux is doing what I hoped.
For sure. If can up his pt total a lil bit and lead this club then we could probably take him out of the NHL’s worst contracts consideration.
How does that worry you? He had a guy draped all over him… I don’t think it’s a concern. Pretty hard for him to do anything there.
Oillll scorrreeee.. Ondrus again!
Goalie switch for the Oil.
Haha! That was a weird goal.
Yeah, I’m really loving this. Horc looks like he has quite a bit of potential this year and DOOBIE! Is Mac attack a +2 now?
Gerbs looks really good in that first half.
lol, the Gerber baby has more hair than Gerber.
Ooooh Vandermeer bowls over Kesler.. niceee
This is awesomely hilarious. Even Storts is looking like an offencive juggernaut.
Kesler looks like he wasn’t sure where he was after that hit.
Kesler rocked by Vandersmeer!
And Racki what do you think of having a POTF 3 stars of the game?
