Per Oilers e-mail:
General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have appointed Ralph Krueger Associate Coach with the hockey club.
Krueger, 50, brings with him a wealth of experience as a coach in Germany and Switzerland and will complement Head Coach Tom Renney and assistants Kelly Buchberger and Steve Smith.
Uhm, who? Well, let’s hope he’s the German/Swiss Toe Blake.
Happy birthday to us.. Happy birthday to us...
Well, today marks the day that Putting On The Foil officially opened the doors and started plaguing the internet. In this post, we look back at some of our favorite moments in that past year, mainly because there is nothing better to talk about! So with out further ado, here are some of our favorite moments, as well as some interesting statistics… Continue reading 'Putting On The Foil Turns 1'»
The Oilers continue their string of good off-season decisions..
The Edmonton Oilers avoided an arbitration hearing with Gilbert Brule, as they signed him to a 2-year contract reportedly worth $1.85M per year.
Per Edmonton Oilers official e-mail:
General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with centre Gilbert Brule on a two-year contract.
Brule, 23, had 37 points (17G, 20A) in 65 games with the Oilers. He finished fourth in team scoring, second in goals and tied for first in game-wining goals with three.
This leaves the Oilers with over $12M of cap space, with 1 guy left to fill out a 23 man roster (thanks to gr8one for the correction noting that I was looking at the wrong year at first!). *thumbs up* Of course they will sign Gagner to a decent contract (my guess is around the $2.5M mark) and they also need a decision on Cogliano. But still, our cap situation is much better than it’s been before. So no more begging for change, Katz.
Im rich, byatch!
The title of this article sounds like some sort of ski or snowboard movie, possibly starring a young Keanu Reeves or Christian Slater. However, I’m of course talking about teams like the Devils and Canucks and Flyers who have successfully or not so successfully (looking at you, Holmgren) circumvented the NHL’s salary cap.
There are a few different ideas out there to prevent teams from circumventing the cap. I figured since it’s the topic du jour, I’d throw out my own suggestion (which might already be an idea out there)…. Continue reading 'Circumventing the Cap'»
NHL Game Center Live
So for starters, special thanks to Suzanne Grassel and Michael DiLorenzo at NHL.com for setting me up with a trial account to check out Gamecenter Live. Due to some internet problems in my old location, I didn’t have much chance to test it out (although what I did see.. wow). I finally got a chance today to get online and check it out though, and what can I say. This might be the greatest thing ever to happen to the hockey world.
So let’s start out with the negatives here, and get that over with. Continue reading 'NHL Gamecenter Live – Review'»
