It’s Hall!!!!, and NHL Draft live blog
Posted By: Steve-OThe draft is here! Well, in 15 min. But it’s here and this should be the very bottom that the Oilers can get. In 20-25 minutes it should be nothing but upwards to better things.
Anyways, here is a post that we can have a lively discussion re: the draft.
I’ll also do some live-blogging should I find that I have energy.
4:49pm: Whoa, and TSN says that apparently Van traded Bernier for Ballard and Fla’s first rounder!
5:03pm: Yada yada yada…typical pre-draft BS
5:06pm: I truly truly hate Mcguire
5:13pm: And nothing has happened. At all.
5:14pm: Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
5:15pm: Bettman gets some brownie points with the home crowd
5:16pm: Ooooooooh….exciting!
5:17pm: We would like to thank everyone…yeah yeah yeah.
5:17pm: Hey! Coffey!
5:17pm: And the Oilers select…
5:18pm: Taylor Hall!
5:20pm: And the TSN analysts finally get off of Hall’s nuts.
5:20pm: Oh, not quite yet…
5:21pm: Tambellini joins in the nut-hugging.
5:23pm: And done. Lets see what Boston does.
5:25pm: They should have more close-ups of Burke…or of Sutter.
5:26pm: And no surprise, Bruins pick Seguin.
5:30pm: Seguin looks kinda bored as Duthie grills the GM on trades.
5:35pm: So yeah, it looks like Florida got vans pick, plus Bernier for Ballard
5:35pm: And the Panthers pick up Gudbranson
5:40pm: Huh, on twitter it says the Van/Fla trade isn’t official until some players goes undrafted at some point
5:43pm: C’mon trades!
5:44pm: And Columbus goes off of the board and picks Johansen!
5:47pm: Oreskovich + Ballard for Bernier + Grabner + 25th pick…only if a player is still available in the draft
5:53pm: Ooooh…who’s the boss eh.
5:54pm: Oh man, twitter is on fire right now. Cogs for 15th was out there.
5:55pm: Islanders have gone Hollywood apparently. But they end up choosing Nintendorider
5:56pm: Atta boy! Way to ignore Bettman
6:02pm: Stevie Y chooses Connolly. Damn the Lightning are going to have a hell of a team. Stamkos, Hedman and Connolly. Plus St. Louis and Lecavalier.
6:04pm: Only 6 picks in over an hour. Jebus…
6:08pm: Helllllooooo Kate Beirness
6:13pm: The ‘Canes pick…Skinner. Damn
6:20pm: The Thrashers pick Bermistrov! Fowler or Gormley still available!
6:23pm: And TSN can’t go more than 15 min without mentioning the Laffs.
6:24pm: The Wild pick Granlund @ 9th.
6:33pm: The Rangers pick McIlrath. Damn it.
6:34pm: And the second d-man picked…wow.
6:39pm: The Stars pick Campbell @ 11. First U.S. player, as well as goalie selected.
6:45pm: Wouldn’t mind a trade or two here
6:46pm: Ducks select Fowler
6:55pm: The Phoenix Coyotes are proud to select, with Calgary’s pick, Gormley
6:55pm: Holy sisters…the over 18 ones obviously.
7:00pm: Blues pick Schwartz
7:06pm: Dreger on twitter says LA and FLA are at the central registry table…possibly over 15
7:07pm: Oh man, I just checked the guide and we have 2 more hours of this!
7:08pm: Deal made. ”I have a trade to announce.” 15th pick to LA for 19th + 59th picks.
7:08pm: I think Bettman’s larynx is bruised from a deep dicking…just what I’m thinking. May or may not be true. I hear NBC’s president has been pretty happy lately.
7:10pm: LA picks Forbort
7:15pm: Yay! Another trade. Ottawa trades 16 to St. Louis for Runblad (?)
7:16pm: St. Louis picks Tarasenko. And damn his sister is good looking.
7:19pm: 16 picks in…only 14 to go! Sigh.
7:25pm: Avs pick Hishon
7:27pm: Another one off the board apparently
7:30pm: Pred’s pick Watson
7:34pm: Hey! A Burke interview. Because thats important right now, not to mention relevant.
7:36pm: Panthers pick Bjugstad @ 18. At least I think we are at 18.
7:43pm: Pens pick Bennett
7:48pm: Wings pick Sheahan
7:58pm: Coyotes trade …ah fuck it…I’m busy now and so far behind (I think I even missed a pick).
Well, I’m done. Read the comments

I still think it is McIlrath. They could have made it seem as though the Oilers were talking about a forward knowing that “Oil Change was gonna air the day before the draft to throw other teams off the D man they wanted. A solid Dman like McIlrath seems like a more logical choice for the Oil now. I think he is gone at the # 12 pick to the ducks but if Anaheim passes on him then look for Tamby to make a move.
It makes sense. Give everyone two clues( D man and from the Dub) with one of them being the truth and the other being a lie and let them try to figure it out. Why would they give up so much accurate info?

I want it to be McIlrath.
By Steve-O, June 25, 2010 @ 6:14 pm Steve-O(Quote)
Hmmm. Skinner is the best goal-scorer in the draft. Even over Hall.
By Racki, June 25, 2010 @ 6:14 pm Racki(Quote)
Yes, I would love for the Oil to draft McIlrath, whether they were talking about him as their dark horse or not
By LateNightOilFan, June 25, 2010 @ 6:14 pm LateNightOilFan(Quote)
Half their board is pissed they didn’t take Fowler – the other half is happy but figured they could have traded down for Nino.
By MetalOil, June 25, 2010 @ 6:16 pm MetalOil(Quote)
Tencer and Staples on twitter. Eberle-This is where Hall wanted to end up!!! I am happy-I guess I read too much into Orr being his agent!!! Hall and Ebs must have some sort of friendship going!!!
By MetalOil, June 25, 2010 @ 6:19 pm MetalOil(Quote)
I just wonder what the cost will be???
By Steve-O, June 25, 2010 @ 6:25 pm Steve-O(Quote)
Does Fowler and Gormley not being picked yet push McIlrath into a better area for the Oil?
i.e. Cogs doesn’t get 15th, but it does get 20th
By LateNightOilFan, June 25, 2010 @ 6:26 pm LateNightOilFan(Quote)
Fowler and Gormley are free falling, so much for the predictions of the experts.
By zackman35, June 25, 2010 @ 6:26 pm zackman35(Quote)
Seguin, Seguin, Seguin… the Edmonton Oilers pick Hall and I couldn’t be happier. Originally I wanted Seguin and leading up to it I was hoping for Seguin but I couldn’t be more happy that it’s Hall.
And yeah MetalOil, I think they do. Did you notice their chemistry in the World Juniors? It was pretty darn sick, can’t wait for training camp!
I hope the Oilers can trade up, still a lot of great players to pick from, get’r done Tambo and I love the retro theme.
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 6:27 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
Tambi, please make a deal, we need defense and Fowler and Gormley are sitting right there.
By MetalOil, June 25, 2010 @ 6:27 pm MetalOil(Quote)
Probably but it might make the price higher too. These mid round picks are more valuable now.
By Racki, June 25, 2010 @ 6:31 pm Racki(Quote)
I will say, I didn’t like Cam Fowler.. but I’m surprised he dropped this far, along with Gormley. Get your ass in gear, Tambo! There’s a few good d-men out there. I’d prefer a guy who plays like McIlrath though.
By Racki, June 25, 2010 @ 6:33 pm Racki(Quote)
Wow, McIlrath goes before Fowler and Gormley.. crazy
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 6:34 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
Ummmmm McIlrath ahead of Fowler and Gornely?????
By zackman35, June 25, 2010 @ 6:34 pm zackman35(Quote)
Darn, Mcilrath is taken by the Rangers. Wow, now who are the scouts eying up? (Assuming they wanted Mcilrath) A skilled D-man?
By Racki, June 25, 2010 @ 6:35 pm Racki(Quote)
Fowler dropping, because he’s a one trick pony. But still surprised he’s still out there..
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 6:35 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
Come on Tambi, make something happen
By Steve-O, June 25, 2010 @ 6:40 pm Steve-O(Quote)
Fowler I can see dropping based on what I read/see, but Gormley?
By gr8one, June 25, 2010 @ 6:40 pm gr8one(Quote)
Holy shit.
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 6:41 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
I think the Ducks will take Gormely with this pick
By gr8one, June 25, 2010 @ 6:42 pm gr8one(Quote)
can’t post.
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 6:47 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
Fowler to the Dcks. Come on Oilers
By Steve-O, June 25, 2010 @ 6:48 pm Steve-O(Quote)
I wonder if the player that the Panthers are interested in is gone at that point, they are willing to do the 15th for Cogs?
By MetalOil, June 25, 2010 @ 6:55 pm MetalOil(Quote)
Well they sure as heck ain’t getting Penner now. If that was even a possibility to begin with.
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 6:56 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
Maybe we see a trade here
By LateNightOilFan, June 25, 2010 @ 7:09 pm LateNightOilFan(Quote)
So FLA wouldn’t trade for a player in Cogs but did so for 2 picks? Interesting.
By Steve-O, June 25, 2010 @ 7:12 pm Steve-O(Quote)
I think its big that they still have one in top 20.
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 7:13 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
Murray might like Cogs here
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 7:17 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
Jesus Tambi
By chucker, June 25, 2010 @ 7:22 pm chucker(Quote)
Strangest draft I’ve seen.
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 7:26 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
I want us to jump up and take a defender here
By chucker, June 25, 2010 @ 7:27 pm chucker(Quote)
Pysyk should be attractive right now.
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 7:32 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
I would love Pysyk on the Oilers, but doubt he goes to us
By chucker, June 25, 2010 @ 7:35 pm chucker(Quote)
Yeah, he’s going to get picked soon I think.
By Steve-O, June 25, 2010 @ 7:35 pm Steve-O(Quote)
Pysyk would be sweet
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 7:36 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
Tambi is pissing me off. Teams are moving up, and we could match those offers easy. Come on now.
By chucker, June 25, 2010 @ 7:37 pm chucker(Quote)
I tend to agree.
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 7:53 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
Maybe a move up here
By gr8one, June 25, 2010 @ 9:00 pm gr8one(Quote)
I hope we take John McFarland with the 31st pick.
By gr8one, June 25, 2010 @ 9:43 pm gr8one(Quote)
bah.

Wonder how my prediction will play out. I’d be pretty darn happy with landing Petrovic tomorrow. Even though I wanted Seguin my prediction was pretty accurate.
(Even though it was 50/50 so far)
By Bostonoiler, June 25, 2010 @ 10:36 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
WE WANT PETROVIC!
By Racki, June 25, 2010 @ 10:56 pm Racki(Quote)
What time does round 2 start tomorrow?
I’ll be packing and moving tomorrow (yes, Steve-O/Trogdor, it will be all packed before you get there).
By Racki, June 25, 2010 @ 11:01 pm Racki(Quote)
I am sure it was mentioned ad nauseum on TSN, but of course, Kirill Kabanov not drafted in the first round…. not surprised at all here. But I wonder when he goes. We should have a pool for this..
By zackman35, June 25, 2010 @ 11:03 pm zackman35(Quote)
I was wondering that myself, I’m guessing some time in the morning. I’d imagine it will be a long day of drafting. And I just emailed you Racki.
By Racki, June 25, 2010 @ 11:15 pm Racki(Quote)
gr8one: sorry about the spam filter kicking your ass all night. Hopefully you’re fine now. If not, I’ll check tomorrow sometime and see if you’re OK. Unfortunately, Steve-O and Trogdor probably have no clue the spam thing even exists, so you’re at the mercy of whenever I get online (which probably isn’t until late evening).
Anyways, thanks for the info on the receivers and such!
By gr8one, June 26, 2010 @ 7:40 am gr8one(Quote)
lol…yeah, it was kinda funny to be honest, sorry about all of the random comments, I kept coming by and checking to see if it would let me post, and I was just typing in random things…I didn’t realize that when you did approve me they would all be posted! so yeah everyone, that explains my random retard posts.
And no problem about the receiver stuff, I love talking about that kind of crap…let me know what you end up deciding on!

Oh and about the draft…
Did anyone else kind of get the feeling that Sather picked McIlrath at 10 was some sort of big fuck you to the Oilers knowing they wanted him so bad? Maybe Sather heard we were offering up Cogs for the chance to pick him and thought he might be able to use him as a trade chip to get something more out of us?
I’m not saying that would be the only reason the Rangers would pick him up…I mean I think he’s still a fairly solid pick at 10 no matter what…it was just a feeling I had that made me wonder.
