I am happy with Quinn in the head office. I think he would be good there, and I think he has a decent eye for talent. He can call a spade a spade. I hope he takes more of a liking to it, but I understand that he’s more of a “hands on” kind of guy.
As far as Katz being unavailable to media.. I’m fine with that. But he’s a good communicator with players… we’ve heard a few stories about him calling up Heatley… having dinner with Hall, etc. He might seem like a bit of a crazed fan to them though.
I have to take the other side on this one Rakki. I think Quinn will be a problem in head office. He does call a spade a spade and that isn’t something that is going to go down well with Tambi/Renney IMO. Pat is a stubborn Irishman who is not going to let his opinions get ignored. I see fireworks on the horizon. Pat doesn’t take crap from anyone. I have not ever mentioned this but I have met Pat and his wife on several close social occasions. He is an intimidating guy with a LOT of pride.
I can email you the circumstances of the social occasion if you like, but I don’t like to talk about people on the open net.

Well, Quinn has always had this baggage with his temper and pride. It got him runout of Toronto, same in Vancouver. I ten to agree with you Vic. I get the feeling that this move was done after they got all the information they had hoped Quinn would provide about the state of the players, they got it, and likely kept hearing, and kept hearing etc. etc.

In otherwords, I get the feeling that he did his job a little too well and wouldn't shut the f up and quite frankly, he's criticized management from day one, even if it's in a back handed kind of way. He did it again in that article I posted.

Lowe and Tambs will tire of his shit. Just watch.

@ Mr.Majestyk:
I tend to think that this (Quinn) is likely him puffing his chest out a bit. He was contacted Monday night about it, but the time lapse at the end of the season without Tambi talking to him is concerning. I wonder if Quinn sticks around if that decision was made a month ago?

It's the right decision and I'm thinking Tambi has made some tough calls that were the right ones, it's him timing and communications that are perceived to be lacking. However, it fits right in with Katz's persona of being unattainable to the media for anything.

I would suggest that they really need to hire an assistant GM who is fantastic with the media to offset Tambi's constant interviews of nothing and how these things seem to be unfolding.

As for Quinn moving upstairs, everyone and their dog new this would happen once he figured out which players sucked and which ones didn't. That's what he was hired for and Tambi has likley heard all he needs to/wants to from Quinn as a coach and now feels more comfortable with Renney at the helm in such a critical year. I do too.

Quinn has had management jobs before, so he knows what he is moving into despite his grumpiness. I just don't think it was on his terms, even though he knew it would be happening, it happened sooner than he expected.
