2010 NHL Entry Draft – Day 2 – Rounds 2 – 7

Welcome to the City of Champions, Taylor Hall
Who will the Oilers add to their prospect pool, now that they’ve gone and drafted Windsor Spitfire phenom Taylor Hall?
There are still some good names out there, including some gambles such as Kirill Kabanov and John McFarland. Will the Oilers select a big d-man they need? Or will they go for a big center? Something else? Discuss here…
UPDATE:
With the 31st overall pick, the Oilers selected Tyler Pitlick. Pitlick is a centremen who played this past year for MSU – Mankato. Word is, he will play next year in the WHL for the Medicine Hat Tigers. He is described as a power forward, and apparently has very good skill on the dot. Here’s what some people had to say, taken from The Hockey’s Spy:
“Dominates faceoffs and in freshman year, is an excellent young prospect, a really good young skater and his ability to dominate a game at his level is truly impressive.”
-E.J. McGuire, Director of NHL Central Scouting“Pitlick is excellent on the wing, where he can use his speed and size on the outside to drive to the net and use his heavy snap shot. He also possesses the ability to play center, and a year of college hockey has improved his defensive game tremendously. Despite being one of the youngest players in college hockey…he doesn’t back down from anyone physically, and has the strength to dish out his own punishment.”
-Western College Hockey BlogA big hard-nosed centerman who can play with finesse and power. It’s that combination of skill and brawn that makes Pitlick such an intriguing prospect. … His hands are quick and smart and he moves the puck quickly with good accuracy. He plays smart all over and shoots the puck very well, with his feet moving.”
– International Scouting Services 2010 NHL Draft Guide“Accelerates briskly out of cross-overs and blows by defenders. Has an NHL caliber shot right now. Flashed the ability to power through defenders to get to net. High energy level every shift. Can gain separation in corners with sharp twists and can turn on a dime. Patient playmaker. Long-limbed with farmboy like strength. Aggressive and finishes checks.”
– Red Line Report 2010 Draft Guide“With little to no support on the roster, he was often forced to create and finish his own opportunities. He has a shoot first, ask questions later philosophy. At 6’2″ and 195 pounds, he still needs to fill out but has a good foundation from which to work with. Pitlick has a sizzling shot and he can pick corners, despite the fact that he scored only 11 goals this season.”
– McKeen’s 2010 NHL Draft Guide
UPDATE 2:
Oilers have traded Riley Nash to Carolina in exchange for the 46th overall pick. Then chose D Martin Marincin with that pick.
UPDATE 3:
Oilers select left winger Curtis Hamilton of the Kelowna Rockets.

Wow, not drafting for need? Tyler Pitlick is ours.
And the Oil select Tyler Pitlick with pick #31
Any clue where I can watch this?
It is actually, NHL.COM has a live stream going…

I don’t condone to this type of thing…
And Racki let me send you something.
I don’t know much about Pitlick, but apparently he will play in the Dub next year for Medicine Hat. He’s a center and considered a power forward.
Zack, by e-mail? I won’t be here for too much longer. Need to get back to my old place and do some work there… allllmost done.
well, glad the Oilers didn’t go way off the map on pick number 2.
Whats up with TSN’s draft tracker that hasn’t moved..
there is a legal link str8 from NHL
^Live legal stream.
Not sure what to think of the #31st pick
trade!
did the draft start just 20 minutes ago? I didn’t realize we’re already in the 40′s.
Are they in the 40s already??? Damn is there a better tracker out there without streaming the vid?
Btw, updated the post above to include some write-ups on Tyler Pitlick
Whats the trade with Ottawa???
Nash to Carolina! Damn, I thought we’d package him up instead of just getting a pick.
Martin Marancin.
McKenzie says Cogliano will be finding a new home shortly. Too many small players and they need to make room for Hall and Ebs.
Yeah just saw this on NHL.com. So do you trade the guy for two picks at this point or prospects. Nash for Marincin. Hmmm. Nash wasn’t playing here anyways.
I’m presuming everyone knows they are live streaming there BTW.
Martin Marincin..? Don’t know a thing about him. But he’s a d-man and tall (at least 6’3)
Damn, Toffoli was still available. Wonder if the Kings moved up expecting the Oilers to take him.
What number is the pick?
Jesus, within minutes, eliteprospects had Martin Marincin’s page updated to say E-town drafted him.
Pick #48 – Curtis Hamilton of the Kelowna Rockets
They selected Marincin with the 45th pick acquired from Carolina.
Vic it was #46 and we selected Martin Marincin (see above, I updated our picks).
Anyways folks, sorry but I’ve gotta head back to my old place and finish up there… enjoy the rest of the draft!!
P.S., I hope the Oil get Conz.
I’m a little surprised to see 2 forwards in 3 2nd round picks….I like the Center we took, but weren’t we supposed to go get defense?
right, it was the 46th.
Sounds like Cogliano is gonna get moved.
We did get D with the Marincin. Here is a blurb about him.

If Kabanov is available at 61 I hope the Oilers take him.

on Pitlick
Will Jordan Weal be an Oiler?
Ah yeah, 2 for 3 aint so bad.
Surprised Petrovic is still available or did I miss something?
He went to Florida, Chucker, one of the top 10 in round two I think…
http://www.nhl.com/ice/draftsearch.htm?year=2010&round=All&team=edm&supl=N
Look at the size.
The Panthers got him..
Tallon is really the winner here so far I think. Wow!
EDIT: Yeah the kid’s huge. Quiet honestly I was hoping we’d take him at 31.
Yeah, no doubt. Didn’t he acquire four or five first round selections yesterday? (Grabner sp* and Bernier sp* included) He’s really building quite fast for only one draft.
So do I. They got McFarland as well, who coul dbe a real star if he gets his attitude adjusted.
An unloade Ballard to the ‘Nucks. Brutal trade for the ‘Nucks IMO. They got ass raped in that trade.
Bob McKenzie had Martindale pegged at 58.
Of course Isles take Kabanov.
haha, Isles take a gamble on Kabanov.
The Nuks need D help. Ballard is a decent player. Grabner is really inconsistent and Bernier’s game has been going downhill the last half of the year.
Ballard’s contract is brutal though. 4.2 with a NMC and he’s signed until 2015. That’s gonna cause cap problems. He’s a good D man, but that’s a huge financial commitment in my view.
How good is Ballard compared to Hamhuis? Hamhuis is looking for 4.5-5 per season. Kind of crazy money if you ask me.
I suspect they aren’t going to sign Mitchell, but your right on Ballards contract.
I lost my feed, anyone else having problems?
I wonder if at some point as this draft progresses, Oilers trade players like Pouliot or Nilsson for a pick.
