This could be you, after winning the first ever POTF Playoff Pool!

OK folks, sorry for the delay, but we finally have a pool going!

I wish it were a bit more straightforward, but here are the steps for joining the pool:

1) Sign up on Sportsnet’s pool site. It appears to be separate from their regular site log on. NOTE: When you register, it looks like your name in the pool is the username you sign in with.
2) Once you are logged in, go to the group search section and search for Putting On The Foil 2010. The password for the group is potfrocks
3) Once you’re all joined up, pick your players! You pick for each round. Pick Deadline for round 1 is 05:00 PM MST on Wednesday, Apr. 14, 2010.

The pool rules are available here.

We will be updating the standings here frequently, but you can also check them on Sportsnet at this link.

For those wondering, I’ve signed up as “cstooch” (damn it that I can’t change that) and Steve-O is sln0069. Don’t forget to pick a good name, and post on here who you are, so we can laugh at your picks!

Oh and one final thing, I guess by being in the pool on Sportsnet, we all have a shot at winning some kick ass prizes through Sportsnet. But what about the winner of our group, you say? Well, for now it is just bragging rights, but I’m currently in negotiations with Steve-O to convince him to send the winner pictures of his sister, but that doesn’t seem to be going so well.

Yes, it’s true… Souray really asked for a trade

Souray wants out.. but before you flame him, read on...

Souray wants out.. but before you flame him, read on...

First off, let me start by stating that earlier in the week David Staples pointed out that Souray asked for a trade, and I questioned whether he was reading between the lines a bit on that… damn, admitting I’m wrong twice in one week? Whhhy!!!

Anyways, yes, it is true, Souray does want out, and he has specifically said that in plain english. What’s the reasoning? Crappy fans, right? No. Well OK, crappy teammates, right? No. Well, crappy weather??? What? That’s got to be it. No. Crappy management is apparently the answer. Souray is pretty ticked off at management these days (and well, who isn’t, really). Could this be more reason to signal the end of Lowe, as well as Tambellini, and signal the move of Pat Quinn to the GM’s chair? Probably not, unless Katz was already on the fence on that. But it came as a bit of a surprise when I read that Souray was ticked at mangement.

I want a trade. I do. It’s not a players thing. It’s not a fans thing or a city thing. It’s a management thing. They’ve given up on me, and it’s a two-way street. Management has soured on me, and I’ve soured on them. The fans are great, they’ve accepted me here, I see the jerseys in the stands. I couldn’t have pictured a more opposite vision of what my experience here would be like. What the organization here would be like, overall.

Anyways, you can read it all here: Sportsnet Article.

I just want to also suggest that people don’t jump all over Souray for asking for a trade. Don’t turn this into Prongergate 2.0. He was a good player here, and a good leader. It’s a huge red flag against management, who has actually shown some issues throughout the season and in the past. This definitely is something that needs to be addressed in some way or another, as it sucks to see another star player shun this team. I’m really starting to think that Tambellini and Lowe spend most of their day playing Nintendo in their office together.

PRE-GAME RANT

Well here it is.. the final game of this bleak season. The Oilers won yesterday in Colorado in the shootout. They are 5-4-1 in their last 10 while the Ducks are 4-3-3. It would be good to see the Oilers end the season on a high note, and give us something to look forward to in the future. The Ducks have owned the series so far, however, taking all 3 previous games this year.

Prediction: 4-2 Ducks.

PRE-GAME RANT

Two final games left in the season for the Oilers. Be prepared for an early one. Oddly enough, this one is on Sportsnet too (you would think a Saturday game would be on CBC). I’m going to keep this write up short. The Oilers are 5-4-1 in their last 10, while the Kings are 4-3-3.

Prediction: 4-3 Oilers.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming…

Sorry, don’t want to jam up on Racki here, but just finished reading Elliotte Friedman’s Mondays 30 thoughts and I can’t stress how awesome it is. Everyone needs to read this. Its on CBC’s website every week and always interesting.

An example of whats in there:

22. Jim Matheson of The Edmonton Journal suggested an interesting deal: Mike Ribeiro for Sheldon Souray. It’s my problem for your problem, but that’s what happens with big contracts in a cap world. Both teams would like to get rid of those players.

Absolutely money. Now scroll down and continue on with Racki’s awesome post where he admits that he was wrong.
