Draft Watch: Hall vs. Seguin – Game 1

By , April 1, 2010 7:32 pm

For those unaware, the Windsor Spitfires are in a playoff series with the Plymouth Whalers. Windsor has two of the top 3 2010 NHL Entry Draft prospects in Taylor Hall and Cam Fowler. Plymouth has Tyler Seguin.

The Spitfires took game 1 by a score of 5-1. Hall had 2G and was +1, Fowler had 1A and was even, and Seguin had 0 points and was -3. Chalk up game 1 to Hall so far, at least as far as points concerned.

Anyone have the pleasure of catching this game?

Draft Watch
Taylor Hall 2 0 2 +1
Tyler Seguin 0 0 0 -3
Cam Fowler 0 1 1 0

Don’t pass the butter…

Peanut butter jelly time!

Jaromir Jagr was arrested and detained for questioning late last night in his home town of Kladno inΒ the Czech Republic. A series of deaths and near fatalities have been linked to his peanut butter conglomerate. Apparently the labeling contains no warning that there are indeed peanuts in Jagr’s product and a bus full of tourists got so excited when they saw their hockey hero’s face on the jar that they all had to have a taste. Oddly 60% of those on the tour were highly allergic to peanut products. So far 4 deaths have occurred and 7 have been hospitalized. One survivor was quoted as saying that he, “thought that peanut meant almond in Czech…”Β  Mr Jagr was unavailable for comment.

Hemsky asks for trade… and other Oilers news

By , April 1, 2010 8:42 am

Our worst fears have come to pass. Reports are that Ales Hemsky has asked for a trade. Sadly, he’s not denying it: “I’ve really enjoyed my time as an Oiler, but really the team is going in a different direction than I am. This is a young team with a lot of talent. In a few years they will be contenders and very successful, but I have to look at what I can do for a team right now. This move should open up the doors for some of the new players such as Eberle and the guy (the Oilers) draft this year.”

Jordan Eberle has been recalled by the Oilers. He will play in Friday’s game. If you’re a fan of Jordan Eberle, get excited, Pierre McGuire.

The NHL’s board of Governors are currently in talks about re-doing the draft process. Suggestions are being made that the Oilers threw the season in order to land the #1 or #2 pick, and that the lottery does not prevent teams from tanking the season. Word is that the format could change as early as this years draft. The suggested format being reviewed is a random draw for each 1-14 spot for all non-playoff teams.

Taylor Hall was recently interviewed about the possibility of playing for the Oilers this year and has stated that he will not be signing with the Oilers if they are the team that wins the Hall sweepstakes. More sad news for the city!

Dany Heatley has finally accepted the original trade to the Edmonton Oilers and will be leaving the Sharks tonight to come here. The trade with the Sharks and Senators will be undone, and Cogliano, Penner and Smid will all head to San Jose.

That is all. πŸ˜‰

UPDATE: for those unaware, this of course was an April Fool’s joke πŸ˜‰
