GDT - Edmonton Oilers at Chicago Blackhawks

PRE-GAME RANT

Sorry folks for the late GDT and the crummy pic. For some reason I originally thought it was a 6:00 start… my bad. Anyways, the trade deadline came and went with a little less activity on the Oiler front than I’d like. Today the Oilers dumped Staios and moved Visser for a younger O-minded d-man. That one will remain to be seen as to how smart a deal it was. Tonight should be an ugly one, however, because the new guys aren’t in the lineup, and we’re already down a Visnovsky, Staios and Grebeshkov. So Mean, Dean Arsene and Johan Motin have been called up.

I predict a 9-1 win for the Hawks tonight. Sorry all the other fluff is out for tonight as I’m a bit behind… plus I have no idea what the lines will look like, at least from the blue line.

This one has major potential to get butt ugly. I mean this is pretty much a Top NHL team playing a mid ranked AHL team.

    8-2 Hawks.

    WE WANT 10!!!!

I am just wondering how many times the puck will leave our zone. Im going with however many goals the Hawks score plus 11

Ok Dubes is in net tonight. It is about time for him to get that elusive first NHL win. Unlikely for that to happen tonight but hey who knows.

Quite a stirring rendition of the US anthem!

Isles beat the Hawks 5-3 last night, partly a Roli stands on his head display but the 2 Hawks goalies also allowed some soft goals. Hopefully the Oilers can capitalize tonight.

Trade deadline was somewhat boring, sad to see Vis go but will reserve judgement until I see how Whitney does. It’ll be pretty weird to see Staios in a Flamers jersey…

Where oh where is Mr Dean

I wonder if the fact that we do not play the Flamers again this year factored into us being more open to trading with our rivals down south.

I must admit that I am very pleased with Theo Peckham’s rapid development in to a Top 4 NHL D-man :)

Arsene late from Springfield, Comrie and Moreau scratches

I’m not sure we have a whole team.

They also said Arsene will dress and play as soon as his cab shows up

Oh, and Ryan Jones is in and wearing #28

Maybe He got into the same cab that earlier this season plagued Patrick Kane :)

Love how the CHI announcers referred to him as one of the Oiler’s young guys – he’s what almost 30?

So how many shifts before he is bumped up to the first line?

Not that it’s the reason he’s scratched but Moreau’s probably disappointed he didn’t get traded. He’s going to miss Stevie.

Twitter said Comrie was a healthy scratch, but just said Moreau was scratched.

And Moreau is one of my favorite players, but he seems to have lost it when Smith was traded. Seeing Staios leave probably broke him.

“I don’t care who we got back, it’s a horrible trade.. waive me”

That wouldn’t surprise me. Maybe he’s pissed too that they were unable to move him.

Of course I couldn’t just be reading into it too much, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that was his feeling on it all.

I missed the first period, btw… Ryan Jones is in??

McKenzie twitter: One trade eluded us, or at least me: 2:59 p.m.: Riley Armstrong from Calgary to Detroit for Andy Delmore‬ . Re-assemble the panel!!!!!

Maybe there is still hope for further trades!

Well it was a Hossa shot, but was DD napping there? Or was he screened? Anyway, down 1-0 hope this doesn’t open the floodgates.

Come on Oil Dubie really deserves this one for his first NHL win. We are getting outshot by a 3-1 margin.

Gilbert is just gonna take over for grebs in the giveaway department now. They won’t decrease dramatically now.

    This game is getting nasty.

And New York Hockey fans count there lucky stars that a deal did not go through for Gilbert. That was just a big time lazy play from a soft uninspired player.

    Not a good start.

However, I’ve lost track of how many point blank saves DD has made this game. The score would be ugly if not for him.

wow…this game illustrated to me how there is pretty much absolutely nothing to look forward to as an Oilers fan until at least the draft.

After the Olympics and the possibility of some exciting changes at the deadline, it feels like I just got home from vacationing in the tropics with a bus load of Playboy bunnies only to find my house has been burned down and my insurance had expired.
