PRE-GAME RANT
Well here it is, the game we’ve been waiting for. No, not the gold, but who doesn’t love a good old battle between the US and Canada? This should be Canada’s toughest battle of this Olympics so far, having easily walked over Norway in the first game. The second game probably didn’t go as anyone had planned. It was a win, but Canada struggled to put the puck in the net behind Hiller. Despite outshooting the Swiss by a 2-to-1 ratio, Canada needed extra time and the shootout to lock the win (3-2). Sidney Crosby was the lone goal scorer in the shootout (on his second attempt – after the first 3 shooters for each team, there is no limitation on the number of times a single player can shoot), and Brodeur sealed the win by whipping the glove out on a great save on a shot by Martin Plüss.

POST-GAME SUMMARY
Well, the Canadians battled pretty hard tonight. The story of the game tonight was Ryan Miller who was phenomenal for the Americans. The Canadians also took a string of penalties to hinder their ability to make a comeback.
The Canadians now have a tough road ahead of them. They will face Germany on Tuesday at 5:30PM MST. If they win that game, they will then face the Russians in the quarterfinal, which should be a heck of a challenge. The US finishes at the top of Group A, and will get a bye into the quarterfinal.

Brodeur to the rescue!
Phew. Bit of a scramble there.
After that first soft call, they’re letting quite a bit go in the second.
Damn it… Where’s our goalie interference call?
Yah no kidding. damn north american refs!
Good time to get a whistle there. End to end to end breakaways?
Holy shit – back to back to back breakaways!
C’mon Canada!
There’s the north american refs…
I really like Drew Doughty. Man are the Kings lucky.
Yeah, for a second year guy, he’s been a MONSTER!!!!
Brodeur is making me nervous this game, he’s trying to do too much and he’s swimming a bit.
Agreed. He’s really trying to play the puck every opportunity. He’s good at making the saves, let the defencemen play the puck.
Despite a couple of issues, Brodeur has still been very good though. His defense has left him hanging out to dry a few times and he’s stood tall.
Anyone watch the Russia / Czech game? Was a pretty good one. The commentators were gushing over Jagr too. Without a doubt, he’ll be in the NHL again next year. But today was Russia’s day. Good game by Geno.
Lovely. Man we can’t buy a break
Cmon boys… Enough penalties.
Wasn’t around for the Russia/Czech game but heard OV hammered Jagr and then Russia scored on one play.
Yes, man that was a nice, beauty of an open ice hit. Jagr was circling through the neutral zone and Ovechkin was preying him like he was a wilderbeast. Wammo! lol
oh jesus.. another US PP. Playing with fire, Canada!
US seems happy with a 1 goal lead. Really collapsing on the net. Now another penalty to kill…
Crrrrap.
Dammit.
Too many penalties. Miller doing his stuff. We just might get another game to get our shit together.
Apparently this team wasn’t as super as I thought it was. And yes, the penalties are killing us.
Again I just want to point out that I have yet to see a single Pepsi commercial any time around these games promoting their silly cheer (nor have I heard said silly cheer). Dropped the campaign I presume?
Kane with a brain freeze. Need to capitalize if we want a chance at 2 or 3 points.
Come on PP.. don’t fail us now.
Maybe Pepsi didn’t realize we already have our own chants. They are a US company afterall
lol, I never even drew the connection… funny how an American company would be trying to make money by telling Canadians how to be patriotic..
My 2 cents.
this has been my worry all along. Our goalies not playing as well as the opposing goalies.
Brodeur has been good, but not great, it will take great goaltending to win this tourney.
Brodeur needs to realize he has the best team in the world in front of him, he doesn’t need to try and do everything, keep his ass in the net and let the skaters play the puck, or use his head when he does play it….sometimes it seems like just because he doesn’t have a trapezoid he is overcompensating.
I think this team has played super, for the most part we’ve really carried the play and chances. Miller is the difference.
PP practice. Let’s make it respectable.
Second chance for a pp goal Canada.
PP is getting too cute. Send some bombs from the point.
oh man, shooting gallery… but Miller is up to the task. Fuuuuuuck.
edit: and getting some help with blocks.
Hot damn… That was close.
oH MY!!!! 4-3!!!! Kind of a garbo goal, but we’ll take it.
About time! Don’t think we’ll be tying this one up though, but I’d love for them to prove me wrong.
Yess!!! One more please, and then another…
And so close from eating my words there.
I take that back, not a garbo goal… I didn’t realize that Crosby was well aware of the puck coming to him. Looked like it just banked in off him.
Where’s Eberle when we need him?
Come on guys, tie it up now…
Oh man what pressure… this is killing me. lol
heh, yeah, g1
Wow.. what a shift..
Wow. That was some old school dominance.
Perry you f#$%ing lazy weasel…
Holy crap. How do you let yourself get beat on that play?
Game. set. match. Full credit to the Americans especially Miller.
