PRE-GAME RANT
Well here it is, the game we’ve been waiting for. No, not the gold, but who doesn’t love a good old battle between the US and Canada? This should be Canada’s toughest battle of this Olympics so far, having easily walked over Norway in the first game. The second game probably didn’t go as anyone had planned. It was a win, but Canada struggled to put the puck in the net behind Hiller. Despite outshooting the Swiss by a 2-to-1 ratio, Canada needed extra time and the shootout to lock the win (3-2). Sidney Crosby was the lone goal scorer in the shootout (on his second attempt – after the first 3 shooters for each team, there is no limitation on the number of times a single player can shoot), and Brodeur sealed the win by whipping the glove out on a great save on a shot by Martin Plüss.

POST-GAME SUMMARY
Well, the Canadians battled pretty hard tonight. The story of the game tonight was Ryan Miller who was phenomenal for the Americans. The Canadians also took a string of penalties to hinder their ability to make a comeback.
The Canadians now have a tough road ahead of them. They will face Germany on Tuesday at 5:30PM MST. If they win that game, they will then face the Russians in the quarterfinal, which should be a heck of a challenge. The US finishes at the top of Group A, and will get a bye into the quarterfinal.

Canada 3
USA 5
Hmm… tough one to predict. I still think Canada has the superior roster.. so I’ll say 6-3 Canada.
I can see this one being a tight one and a good ole fashioned barn burner. I think 5-3 with an empty netter for Canada. The US will be forechecking like crazy and our D need to get it out quick. It will be a good bounce back game for the boys.
PS – Did anyone see the Swiss/Norway game today. I just caught the OT goal but was wondering if Hiller was just ordinary in this one?
Should be a great Rivalry day tomorrow, can’t wait!
I think this is where our D and agressive forecheck start to really roll. Miller is the wildcard to me.
I’d say 5-2ish.
You’re very sly to not say for whom…
And agreed, the US team will roll as Miller does.
Need a win here Canada! Any word on who’s in net?
I’ll miss the first half of the game, my son plays at the same time, hope I see good news on the scoreboard when I get home!
Well, for Canada of course.
I can’t find anything on who’s starting yet, but looks like they’ve decided on Richards to play alongside Crosby and Nash.
Malkin scores on the PP to make it 1-0 Russia so far, vs. the Czechs.
oh Plekanec with a goal on a 5-on-3 PP… 1-1
Czechs look good.
Brodeur is in the net today… This tournament is getting really good, lots of close games and great hockey.
I can’t wait for the Canada/USA Women’s game, that game will be very chippy
Wow, Ovechkin nails Jagr open ice… Russia goes the other way and scores.
The Czechs had a goal disallowed on them, due to a quick whistle… I wonder how long we’re going to hear about this, if Russia wins (currently 3-2 for Russia with under a minute left).
I heard at some point in the last few days that Marty B would go again, but I guess we’ll find out when the game starts. Missed Russia/Czech game but with a 4-2 final, there may be some talk of the disallowed goal as you said.
Another silver for Canada! Too bad we didn’t get two medals though…
This should be a good’er.
And yes, Brodeur gets the start.
Lets get it on!
Been looking forward to this one. And crap, bad start.
crap
Ack.. Americans draw first blood
Been looking forward to this one. And crap, bad start. Ah… bad deflection
What?! Goaltender interference on that?
bit of a soft call there…
Got a steak marinating right now…. going to be difficult to cook that thing and watch the game at the same time though. Hopefully intermission is a little extra long.
Blue rare it is!
Nice hit by Doughty on Parise..
Alright, our turn to show them how a powerplay works. Not that it’s clicked much so far.
So rumor is that Iginla might have been hurt on a hit in the last game. Not badly though if he’s still in the lineup.
Getting some shots so far. As for Iggy, it did seem like he faded out of the last game.
Scooorrresss!!! 1-1
Woohoo! Nice deflection!
OI. That was quick.
Marty? WTF?
Damn… He was in position for the save but squeaks under the pads.
Although it led to a turn over (not to mention, a goal), I gotta say that’s some pretty good hand-eye coordination for a goalie. lol
Yes, impressive cricket swing, but he could have let it go into the corner…
There’s Iggy. See how many minutes he gets though.
Oh for sure. Its one of those things though that if it works, you’re like “oh wow, how creative and skillful”, but when it doesn’t, you’re like “wow, that was dumb of him”… just like Roli’s baseball swing.
Or the puck to the face?
Ok, time to race against the clock to make my supper..
Looking a bit like the Swiss game. I think talent wise we’ve got them, but it’s anybody’s game so far.
Yah, agreed with all that.
Note to self: start potatoes way earlier next time.. might be a bit of a PVR delay for me when the 2nd starts.
Microwave is the great equalizer.
Damn it.
2-2!
Et la but!!!!
Grilling pro tip #27: Jim Beam makes incredible marinades. I used to use this Jim Beam Honey Bourbon one but it was impossible to find. Sobey’s started selling other Jim Beam marinades now. Grabbed this teriyaki one and its phenomenal on steak!
If you’re a fan of steak, get excited about Jim Beam.
hahaa thanks Pierre
