PRE-GAME RANT
Roberto Luongo gets the start in this one. The forward lines according to Bob McKenzie should be:
Nash-Crosby-Iginla
Staal-Getzlaf-Perry
Toews-Richards-Bergeron
Heatley-Thornton-Marleau
So NorweiganOiler is predicting the demise of the Canadian empire right here in this game. To be honest, I would love to see it. I always cheer for the underdog. Of course I’d love to see Canada win though, and I think they will, and I think they’ll win big. Any other Norweigan fans in the house, by the way? Would love to hear from some other fans around the globe.
Feel free to submit your predictions in the comments. I’d say if Canada fails to break double digits, it’ll be a great game played by the Norweigans.

| SCORING SUMMARY |
| 1ST PERIOD SCORING |
| No scoring. |
| 2ND PERIOD SCORING |
CAN – 2:30 – Iginla (PP) from Crosby, Doughty |
| Crosby feeds Iginla in the high slot, with Nash screening the goaltender. Iggy one times it into the net, mid-height, blocker side. |
CAN – 4:27 – Heatley from Pronger, Thornton |
| Pronger blasts a shot from the point down low. Heatley is camped in front and tips it through the goaltender’s legs. |
CAN – 11:06 – Richards from Bergeron, Weber |
| At the tail end of a penalty kill, Richards chases down a dump in, in the Norweigan zone. He manages to find himself alone and tries to jam it in short side by the post. The save is initially made, but the rebound is poked in by Richards. |
| 3RD PERIOD SCORING |
CAN – 4:29 – Getzlaf from Neidermayer, Toews |
| With a delayed penalty coming, and after hitting the bar moments earlier, Getzlaf gets a rebound out front with his back to Grotnes. He pivots and fires a backhand past the netminder. |
CAN – 6:43 – Heatley (PP) from Marleau, Boyle |
| Marleau drops it for Heatley at the point. He unloadss a slapper that beats the goalie on the blocker side. |
CAN – 7:36 – Iginla from Nash, Crosby |
| Beautiful goal. Iginla drops to Crosby and rushes to the net. Crosby puts it down load to Nash who makes an unbelievable cross crease pass to Iginla, who taps it in. |
CAN – 11:03 – Perry from Staal, Boyle |
| Staal nearly scores on a nice deke move, but somehow the puck stays out as a Norweigan defender pokes it away from the goalline. However he doesn’t get it out far enough and Perry bangs the rebound in. |
CAN – 18:11 – Iginla from Nash, Crosby |
| With a screen in front of the net, a shot from the point by Nash goes off Iginla’s stick, through his legs, and behind the goaltender. Hat trick Iginla. |

POST-GAME RANT
The Canadians came out a bit slow early on in the game. They got plenty of shots on net in the first period, however the chances weren’t too great in that period. That said, Grotnes (the Norweigan goaltender) played pretty fantastic in the first. In the 2nd period, after the 2nd goal was scored, you could feel the floodgates slowly opening. The Canadians unloaded on Team Norway. As Nick Kypreos said during the intermission, really the only worry the Canadians have against a team like Norway is that the goaltender would dominate. He held the fort pretty well for the first half of the game, but just couldn’t do it all on his own, and eventually the game really opened up.
The lines all looked really good together. The top line was stellar. Getzlaf also had some great individual efforts, and looks not to be suffering from the ankle injury.
Next game, Thursday, Feb 18 @ 5:30PM MST vs. the Swiss.

Canada 8
Norway 0

I wouldn’t be so sure everyone. Last Olympics (2006), not a single team hit double digits in men’s hockey. Its not the same as the women’s game or the juniors. A lot more competitive.
I’d go with a 5-1 or 7-2 win for Canada…and if Norway’s goalie is hot, then make it a 4-2 win.
I’m partly kidding, although I did not know that factoid (no single team has hit double digits in mens.. interesting to know). I’m going to go with 6-1 Canada, on that note. I would really like to see Norway give us a run for our money though. I’m hoping for a close game.
Would love to see Patrick Thoreson have a good game tonight. (no shot blocking, however)
Yup, check the last Olympics here
Oh you edited that post you bugger. You said never in any Olympics have they hit double digits (which surprised the hell out of me).. although its possible i just fail at reading comprehension and misread. Never in 2006, I can believe. Our team wasn’t as awesome in 2006.
9-2 Canada. I am so pumped for this!!!!!!!
I edited nothing.
Since I misread Steve-O’s comment above, I’m going back to saying 12-0 Canada!
That said, I can’t recall it happening in the 2002 Olympics either
I just had a look… the last time it happened was in 1994, and interestingly enough it was Slovakia that did it (against Italy). I think it’s safe to say it won’t happen this year either.
“Can you say testicle on TV?”-Paul Holmgrem after Thoresen’s testi was shattered in a playoff game from blocking a shot.
Should be a gooder, but I have a networking thing tonight. I’ll say 9-1 Canada.
Game on!
Thoresen on the top line.
Norway’s goalie is hanging in there pretty well so far.
Yeah for sure. For players playing on these non Hockey powerhouse teams like Norway this is not just the chance to represent their country’s It is also a chance for them to make a name for themselves and maybe garner some looks from some of the more elite hockey leagues if they are not currently playing in one of em.
How are those holes going? Any progress?
I didn’t/don’t expect a 12-0 final, but I didn’t expect a 0-0 first period either. Good job to the Norweigans there.
What? You couldn’t track down the Norwegian starting line up? Looking good so far. Just need a goal or two to open the flood gates.
Also, very pleased to hear the traditional chant “Let’s go Canada!” instead the Pepsi farce.
Hey wasn’t your knee surgery scheduled for today??
Also, i haven’t even seen a commercial for that dumb chant. I wonder if they dropped the idea.
Iggy skewers! Not often I’ll be excited about that.. 1-0 Canada
Iggy! The only time I cheer for him.
Surgery is done. Recovery mode now. On the couch with an ice pack. Sadly no beers allowed for 48 hours…
He reps Northern Alberta today!!!
Oooh, how’s it feel? I actually got honorary shotgun for you today. I am pretty sure I’ll make a speedy recovery though as it seems to be healing up pretty quick.
48 Hours Really ??? I go under the knife tomorrow but I think I will hold out on beers for about 24 hours.
I still Hate him
Floodgates?
The Oil Haters combine on that one. Booooooooooo
Still pretty groggy, but not in too much pain. Wife is collecting some Tylenol 3s for me, but hopefully I don’t need them.
Now I have to cheer for Pronger too?
Trogodor’s knee surgery was sponsored by some rare-European brand beer. I wouldn’t be surprised if he sneaks one in a bit early.
What you going in for MetalOil?
Back on Monday?
Broke my wrist Snowboarding.
ooh 5-on-3
That was a hard ass hit.
I wish the NHL would go back to no trapazoid.
Richards Yeah !!!
I should be back Monday. Forgot the good ol purple sheet, so I can pretend I was there this week too and people kept missing me.
Richards scores!!!
Nice!!! Shorty? close
no shorty.
I think it will be gone next year. There have been some rumblings about it.
The Grotnes monster. I’m calling it now.
Good!!! I say just make the goalie fair game once he leaves his crease.
Au Grotnes
The Grot one
ya, the Grotnes Monster it is..
I’ll be watching the Russia / Latvia game after this… would love to see what the big red machine can do.
Feeling the false sense of security yet?
NO: haha… well 3-0 is still a very close game, and the Norweigans should be happy with it that close. Anything can happen in the 3rd.
Cindy Crosby with a bad penalty
Practicing our p/k now…
Oh man, nice save one-on-one by Lou, just before Thor rips it a mile over the net
