First, he takes a stick in the face. He's on the bench nursing the wound when Joni Pitkanen comes flying in the bench from a Giordano hit. Joni's skate misses him going in, but as he stumbles back, it comes back and cuts Staal on the cheek. So he's sitting on the bench looking like he just survived a tiger mauling.
