PRE-GAME RANT
Will that picture be re-created tonight, perhaps with Jordan Eberle the subject? Let’s hope so. The Canadians barely squeaked off a shootout win against the USA on New Years Eve. The Americans look to be the best match for the offensive Canadians (not to be confused with the other meaning of the word “offensive”, often used with the Oilers as of late). The Americans play a very strong, tight neutral zone game. I suppose you could call it a trap, but it’s smart hockey. The Canadians had a lot of trouble getting passes through the neutral zone. They also have been having some difficulty with their powerplay and have changed it up a bit, giving them another option.
Anyways, there also is an Oilers GDT thread out there (below this one). But I have to wonder why anyone in the world would watch that game over this one. This is exciting hockey folks. Even if the Oilers were doing well, this is what hockey is all about. Tune in for sure.

POST-GAME RANT

USA wins Gold in an epic final
Well, this one is in the books. It was won on a goal by John Carlson. I have to hand it to the Americans. They played a great game. They played a solid 60+. When Canada came back, it was because the Canadians were pressing HARD, not because the USA laid back. The US clearly deserved to win.
That all said though, what a great game played by Canada. Unfortunately, they got off to a slow start and had some bad goaltending off the hop as well. They were clawing to stay in this one nearly the whole way. Again, the magic-man Jordan Eberle did his best to keep Canada in this. He scored two goals late in the 3rd period to tie it up 5-5 and force overtime. But it wasn’t meant to be.
The good news for us Oilers fans is that Jordan Eberle racked up a few awards after the tournament’s end – he was named one of the top 3 players for Canada (voted on by the coaching staff for Canada), player of the game for Canada, forward of the tournament, and tournament MVP. As Pierre McGuire would say “If you’re a fan of the Edmonton Oilers… get excited about Jordan Eberle!”. He’s from Regina, but it was good hearing the Saskatoon fans chant “Eber-le! Eber-le! Eber-le!” when he received the forward of the tournament award. TSN even gushed about Eberle, saying he was the most clutch player to ever suit up for Canada in the juniors. Pierre McGuire: “He’s the most prolific goalscorer Canada has ever had”. Bob McKenzie: “I agree. I don’t remember a more clutch performance back to back by a Canadian player.” Get excited, indeed. Depending on your view, he also took over the lead for career goals in the World Juniors by a player. The IIHF counts shootout winners as goals, however. So if you remove this, then he would be tied with John Tavares for the lead (and Eberle has played one less game). Either way, that’s pretty impressive.
Disappointing loss, but good game by Canada, and great hosting done by Saskatchewan. It wasn’t meant to be this year, but great game Canada!

EDMONTON OILERS PROSPECT WATCH (UPDATED – FINAL SCORING)

Benjamin Conz
Any word on Kozun? I think that’s who was forced into the boards awkwardly. I wonder what his replacement was thinking during that hit, it didn’t look too good at all. And I’ll be watching this one tonight, I’m pretty jacked for it but it’ll have to be PVR’d on the account of I’ll be out tonight for a bit.
Go USA……
nah, it was Travis Hamonic, and no he will not be playing as he has a separated shoulder from the incident.
i was suprised until i realized that there are other people not in edmonton on the internet
on another note, I remember prior to last years draft a lot of people lobbying for us to pick Jared Cowen(which became moot when he was taken 9th).
I know it’s still early in his development but he’s getting ripped pretty hard and benched over his lack of mobility in this tourney.
All I can say is thank you Ottawa for letting MPS fall to us.
Derek Stepan of USA is 1st in points with 12
Eberle and Pietrangelo are tied in 2nd with 11 (both played 1 game less than Stepan)
gr8one: Yup, I noticed that too (that he’s being burned in the tourney). Of the players picked 6-10, I’m extremely happy with who we got and wouldn’t want anyone else.
Swedes vs Swiss for the bronze on TSN now !!! I really like the Swiss team( Dirty late game hit vs Canada aside) and wouldn’t mind seeing them get a medal but on the flip side I would also like to see MPS get one so I just wanna see a good exciting game.
In the Gold medal game it a given that it will be full of excitement. Canada Vs the USA always is. I think it is a very even matchup and it will have to be Canada’s best game of the tourney if they want an unprecedented 6th straight Gold. GO CANADA GO !!!
Also found a good website for MPS

Thought I would post it for anyone who wants to learn more about one of the Oilers top prospects.
Lander with another!!
Pretty impressive for Pietrangelo who is a D-man. He’s been really good this tourney. Maybe the next Mike Green?
Pietrangelo reminds me of a Bouwmeester in a way. I’ve never seen him play except in this tourney, and he’s really impressed me. He’s a huge guy, and it really shows in this kid’s tourney. He’s very poised and calm with the puck, and makes really smart decisions.
T-minus 30-ish until puck drop.
I like how the commentators haven’t said a word yet. If only it could stay that way. Or at least turn McGuire’s mic off.
This reminds me of when CBC French had their strike and they showed games, but with just game sound.. no commentary. Was awesome.
This is going to be nuts!!! Lets go boys!!!
Scoorrrrresssss… 1-0 Canada!
Good start, Good start!!!
I love how loud the crowd is, but they need to keep it going…
Let’s go Canada, let’s go!
Although we’re up 1-0, the Americans have a pretty frustrating D.
Still 1-0, 10 minutes into period 1 for those lurking but can’t watch the game.
Love the pace so far!
wow…I was beginning to forget what good hockey looked like.
Yah, and the refs.. I wonder where they are from… they are just letting them play. That’s great.
Damn, 1-1 as Kreider scores for the US.
Oh that’s a momentum changer, nice shot but Allen has to have that.
Get it back Canada!
Argh.. 2-1 for the US…
Uh oh, wake up boys!
Neimisz scores!!! 2-2
Yahhhh! 2-2!
wow, great fucking game so far.
HUGE GOAL
Last goal wins?
lucky but needed
i think allen’s got a suspect glove
woooooooo…finally Nemisz gets a well deserved point!
Good time for him to get his 1st point of the tourney!
Euck. Canada needs to implement some defense. Kadri has a lot of talent, but he is the most careless puckhandler I’ve seen in a long while.
Neimsz!
Bogus call there after letting other stuff go.
if they keep scoring like this that damned twitter whale is gonna be in trouble.
LNOF: yah no kidding. Not a fan of that call at all.
I love how everyone spelled Neimsz differently, lol.
Which one of us has it right?
That shot stung Allen
Ringed it right off the head… hopefully that knocks some skills into his top/glove side.
Do we have a guy that plays the top half better?
Mix ‘em up a bit…
Oh crap… 10 minutes to Pietrangelo.. not good.
Jeez stay out of the box! Crap 2 & 10.
best d man out for 10 min?
Hmmm… Peteangelo is out for 12 mins.
How is that a hit from behind, and that one in the opening 5 mins from the US wasn’t?
me
Nemisz is correct. I looked it up after. lol
Arch-Nemesis… or Arch-Nemisz
