GDT – Edmonton Oilers 2, Columbus Blue Jackets 4 – Jan 7, 2010 @ 7:00 PM – SNET – Game 44

GDT - Edmonton Oilers vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
PRE-GAME RANT
Missed the last game vs. the Coyotes, as I’m sure many of you did since it was PPV and Team Canada was on. However, we are currently 1-9-1 in the last 11. The Blue Jackets are 1-8-2 in that same time frame (1-13-2 in their last 16.. wow.. thought we had it bad), so it should be the battle of the titans tonight.
Steve-O and I will be heading to the game tonight courtesy of free tickets I won from work.. yay! Anyways, I sure as hell hope they win so I can at least enjoy being at the game. I’ve had some rotten luck there this year, like many others. Both the heart and brain are predicting a win tonight though.
Brain prediction: 4-3 Oilers
Heart prediction: 7-3 Oilers

GAME NOTES
- Steve Staios, Ryan Stone and Jean-Francois Jacques were absent from Wednesday’s practice. Staios was nursing an injury. According to Quinn he “got wacked last night and today he went to be medically checked”. I think that’s 1920′s old man talk for “he blocked a shot and got hit on the inside of the knee” (per Tencer’s twitter, live during the game.. 1 of 10 people watching Tuesday night). Jacques has a wrist injury, but Quinn says that’s not why he was scratched on Tuesday. Stone’s injury is a minory knee injury. He had the day off for precautionary reasons. Staios is questionable for Thursday.
- Nilsson also took a stick in the eye on practice Wednesday, but seems to be OK.
- The good news is, Visnovsky could be ready as early as tomorrow. So if Staios is out, Visnovsky may be in, if he’s good to go. But if it’s not tomorrow, sounds like it could be soon. Quinn said he had a good skate on Wednesday morning.
- According to Tencer and the Oilers twitter, Dubnyk gets the start tonight.

At least he’s hitting the net tonight.
Time to break out a Belgian beer to improve the bad taste in my mouth…
Well your welcome BJ’s, we broke your road losing streak. Unless you guys want to tank as well, then we apologize.
Garon’s mask is kind of ugly this year, just noticed that now.
Night all…
Night. Hopefully it’s more entertaining next time!
Jesus Trogdor, you’re making me look bad with these pretty looking game summaries.
Anyways, crummy game. Steve-O and I had a dipshit behind us who was smack talking Horcoff (surprise surprise) and Pisani all game. And the guy beside me kept talking about how great Gilbert was any time he’d step on the ice.
Not the worst game I’ve seen, but maybe because I honestly don’t care if we lose anymore. I don’t mean that in the negative “I hate this team!!!” way. I just mean I can see that top-3 pick in the distance, and while I still like when the Oilers win, those losses help the cause. So I just went and enjoyed the game. Could have been more exciting though. No real energy to the game at all.
yeah, that guy was a douchebag
or what about the chick behind us that “c’mon (insert player name)” for every oiler that touched the puck
I wasn’t too distracted by the “action” on the ice, so I had time to bust out my mad html skills.
Post game seems to say it all really, I enjoyed how Quinn mentioned heart/attitude. I say bring back Cole (when he’s off the IR) by trading Moreau + 3rd rounder. Put off the captaincey till next season and I’d bet Cole would be a top candidate if he played for us like he did last year. I’m not sure how Moreau has played the last few games but it’d be real nice to see Cole back. And the passion/leadership should be coming from the captain and if Quinn goes on and rants that there’s no heart then somethings up I think.
Take that BJ’s! Hall is ours!
Hey, you guys remember Quinn’s little speech in that season opening video? Kind of ironic now, isn’t it?
Never should have traded Cole, in my opinion. But on the one hand, he was making 3M and not scoring much here. And O’Sullivan seemed like a pretty great player to pick up at the time too. Hell, my man crush for Staios was nothing compared to Cole, and I still was OK with that trade.. so hindsight is 20/20 I guess.
But yah, needless to say, would love to have him back here.
Its Carolina we have to worry about… those guys lost last night too. grr. Well there is always the lottery…
I don’t remember it.. can you elaborate?
Yeah, no kidding. It would be kind of ironic if we were beaten by Carolina at being losers.
The vid was about the team playing with heart and all that crap… I’ll try and find a link.
