Destined Oiler Taylor Hall works some magic

Canada vs. Slovakia
Canada Record: 2-0-0
Slovakia Record: 1-1-0
Date: December 29 @ 6:00 PM MST
TV: TSN

Ok this lame ass attempt at a GDT is courtesy of me forgetting to do up a nice picture last night and being stuck at work with only Paint at my disposal.

Canada looks to improve their record to 3-0-0 tonight against Slovakia. After tonight, there is one more game to go in the preliminary round for the Canadians (vs. the United States on Thursday). If you haven’t been watching, you really should tune in and take a look at one of our young stars in action (Jordan Eberle). He’s played pretty phenomenally.

Yeah, Eberle is as expected doing great sitting tied for first with his teammate Gabriel Bourqe for first in points in the tourney with 7 points(3G, 4A apiece)but what I am real happy to see is that other Oiler prospects are doing pretty good as well. MPS is in 7th place with 5 points and Anton Lander is tied in the 11th spot with 4. So far the Oilers have 3 prospect in the top dozen. I doubt that any other NHL team has that many!!!
I like our drafting lately if there is one positive for the Oil.

It’s nice to cheer for a competitive team if even for so short a time. Got an Olympic jersey under the tree so I’ll wear it with pride again tonight. At least for this game my dad and I will cheer together.

Won’t be the case tomorrow night at the Leafs game… Not sure why I bought tickets, but hopefully Christmas is still close enough for one more Christmas miracle.

EH OH!!! Uh… How’s the rest go?

Anyone hear this trademarked cheer break out in a game yet?

  3. Racki says:

Yes, I heard the cheer… kind of faint. How embarrassing. Come on people. Tell Pepsi to go F#@* themselves (he says, while sipping from his bottle of Diet Pepsi).

And you will give your Dad, the Leafs fan, the ultimate present… a rare game where he actually gets to see his team win!

  4. Steve-O says:

The fuck you should be completely ignoring them when they try to start it.

And then just start chanting ca-na-da

  5. Steve-O says:

also, canada lost at the spengler today

  6. chucker says:

Sweetness!! Good hockey will be played, also Russia plays tonight.

  7. mrgod2u says:

I don’t really get why they run the Spengler at the same time as the World Jr.s… I only have so much time in the day, and I would rather watch future stars hand out a whupping than club teams playing…

I am definitely making it my New Years resolution to go to more Pats games here in Regina. Can’t wait to put Eberle on an Oilers Jersey.

  8. Racki says:

Nice… I saw Eberle once here when he played the Oil Kings. Was less than impressed, but it was only one game. That was last year too. Things change.

  9. Horpensky says:

MPS has 3 points tonight so far

  10. Racki says:

damn, forgot that game started already. Should have setup the PVR before heading to work this morning.

He’s getting a lot of points (MPS), but the one game I watched him, he was alright but not great. I’m still optimistic about him, but just saying that he’s earned a few points from good linemates too.

  11. MetalOil says:

Ether way MPS is now the tourneys leading point getter with 8!!! Probably just temporary as Eberle should get some in the game coming up!!! Just gotta love the fact that our Oiler prospects are running the Stats department in the tourney so far:)

  12. Horpensky says:

Today he looked a lot better, primary cross ice assist, driving and shooting

  13. MetalOil says:

Didn’t he get the game winner as well?

  14. Racki says:

    Game is still going

  15. Racki says:

Eberle possible assist on goal #1..

    Yup… assist #1 tonight

  16. Trogdor says:

Wasn’t sure Eberle was in on that one, but he earned one for the abuse in the crease.

    And there’s the 3rd goal!

  17. MetalOil says:

Hall is gonna be great. Sure hope we can get first dibs on him.

  18. Racki says:

Our power play is ridiculously good. If only Edmonton had 1/2 the powerplay these guys do. Of course, their opponents aren’t exactly stellar PKers either.

  19. gr8one says:

Just finished watching the Sweden/Russia Game…

Sweden dominated for the most part, and when they didn’t Markstrom looked fantastic in net.

MPS looked good as well with another 3 points(1G/2A).

It would be awesome to see Eberle/MPS finish 1-2 in tournament scoring, and seeing MPS getting silver to Eberle’s gold.

Wow, Hall is certainly making a case for my desire to tank for him.

  20. Trogdor says:

How is it not 4-0? Nice puck movement.

  21. MetalOil says:

Nice pass by Ebs on that near goal!!!

  22. gr8one says:

Steve-O: also, canada lost at the spengler today

What talent pool does Canada pull from to make the Spengler roster?

  23. MetalOil says:

Isn’t Canada’s spengler Cup team made up mostly of Canadians who play thier hockey overseas?

  24. Racki says:

Their goalie is playing pretty good so far. Tank for Halasz!

  25. Trogdor says:

There are a couple of AHLers on the Spengler team, so they seem to pull from all over.

  26. Horpensky says:

    MetalOil:

Usually over the hill old guys who don’t have jobs or are old AHL vets. Guys like Alexandre Daigle!

  27. gr8one says:

Racki: Their goalie is playing pretty good so far. Tank for Halasz!

hehe…after watching Sweden play, it did get me wondering what we could do to finagle Markstrom from Florida.

  28. Racki says:

All the guys in the Spengler Cup currently play on some random hack euro league team, with the exception of Doobie (the other Doobie goaltender).

I think the only criteria (if even) is non-NHLers.

  29. gr8one says:

Trogdor: There are a couple of AHLers on the Spengler team, so they seem to pull from all over.

yeah, a quick look at the roster and it just looked to me like a rag tag bunch of no-names or has-beens that aren’t needed anywhere else.

  30. Racki says:

I’m happy we got Eberle in that draft, but I was actually hoping (at the time) that the Oilers drafted Markstrom instead and was upset when they didn’t. Of course time will tell on that. Eberle might stink the joint up in the NHL.. Markstrom might… one might be completely awesome.. who knows.

I think both will have good NHL careers though.

  31. MetalOil says:

Didn’t Cujo play in the Spangler a few years back?

  32. Racki says:

    Horpensky:

Good to see him getting a bit of work these days! :P

  33. Racki says:

MetalOil: Didn’t Cujo play in the Spangler a few years back?

He did… meeting the “washed up ex-NHLer” criteria at the time.

  34. Racki says:

Eberle just got rocked by Hrasko.. that’s gotta hurt

  35. Trogdor says:

Keep yer head up Eberle! Pretty solid hit.

  36. Trogdor says:

    “GO CANADA GO!!!”

    Take that Pepsi.

  37. Trogdor says:

Where are all these big hits coming from?

  38. Racki says:

Nice call on the dive there.. that was f’in horrible..

  39. chucker says:

Nice game. Getting some nasty now.

  40. chucker says:

    Our future franchise player. Excellent.

  41. Bostonoiler says:

    MPS is nasty…..Eberle is nasty…..Hall??

  42. chucker says:

This is the Slovak team I expected. Much better than last period.

  43. Racki says:

Comrier = the new Moreau? :P

  44. chucker says:

    Bad penalty.

  45. Horpensky says:

This team is taking too many penalties this game. Cormier shouldn’t be captain imo, too many selfish/stupid actions. I think Pietrangelo shoulda been captain.

  46. Racki says:

I blame Gord Miller and Cormier for that shutout streak being broken.

  47. Trogdor says:

And the shutout streak ends. I think it was Maguire who brought it up…

  48. chucker says:

    No kidding. STFU Gord!!

  49. chucker says:

God I want this kid to be ours come draft day.

  50. Trogdor says:

Very nice goal. This powerplay is dangerous.
