Oilers prospect Anton Lander just scored a beauty one timer on a nice seeing-eye, cross-seam pass from Petersson. MPS got the second assist on this goal (although it was all Petersson/Lander here). MPS also got an assist on the first goal, but I missed that one. 4-0 Swedes over Czechs so far after 1 period of play.
edit: just saw the first goal.. MPS was carrying it up the boards through the neutral zone and fed it over to Peterssen through coverage. Peterssen sped into the zone past the D, beating the goalie one-on-one.

Oilers Prospect Paajarvi-Svensson just scored on the PP… setting up on the side boards, he one-timed a pass from the point through the goaltenders legs.

The Swedes are destroying the Czechs. 8-1 so far. Anton Lander just scored his 2nd goal. Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson added another assist on the 7th goal. He has 4 points so far (1 goal, 3 assists).

Sounds like Lander and especially MPS is having a hell of a game.

I love how the guy singing the anthem sang one line in French then went right back to English for the rest of the anthem

Ellis scores on a pretty soft looking wrister from the point slot. May have been a screen, but didn’t seem too bad. 1-0

Yah they have played pretty good, I’d say especially so with MPS. Lander’s first goal was nice.. more so from the beauty pass by Petersson, but it was a nice shot too by Lander. Kind of one of those Crosby-esque one timers where it’s out of reach but he slides to shoot it.

Kadri with the goal… assisted by Jordan Eberle (2nd assist.. first assist to Hall) on the PP!
Prepare to hear McGuire’s man crush on Eberle.. he really loves him.

MPS assists on another one. 10-1 Sweden. Damn, that’s embarassing. Another PP goal. MPS sets up Larsson with a pass, and he blasts it from the point through traffic.
Canada scores one on the PP as well in the other game.. 3-0.

Racki, watching Taylor Hall and Eberle almost makes watching the Oilers lose palatable. Does that make me a bad fan of the Oilers?
By Racki, December 26, 2009 @ 2:24 pm Racki(Quote)
lol, it makes you a great fan of the Oilers future!!
I’m having a tough time swapping between the Swedes and the Canada game.

Sweden vs. Czechs game officially over (Sweden 10, Czech Republic 1).
Oilers watch:
Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson – 1 goal, 4 assists
Anton Lander – 2 goals
Btw, during the ’08 draft, I wanted the Oilers to pick Jacob Markstrom. We picked Jordan Eberle. That could be an interesting one to see which turns out to be the better player. They both look like they could have solid NHL careers.
4-0 Canada.

Eberle scorrress..
All speed there. 2 on 1.. defender dives to break up the pass, but it gets to Eberle and he just redirects the pass in.
My nightmares have come true… the Canadian fans have bought into Pepsi marketing and are chanting “eh, oh, Canada go”

Man, Eberle on a 3-on-2, passes back and gets his pass back and fires a wrister off the top-right corner post.
Kozun just scored on a cross-seam one timer on the PP.. 9-0 nearing the end of 2.

Eberle scores on the doorstep to make it 10-0…
On the powerplay, Kadri makes a great play to prevent the Latvians from breaking out of the zone. He dishes to Eberle who makes a nice drop pass to Pietrangelo and drives to the net. Pietrangelo’s shot is mishandled by the Latvian goalie, and Eberle bangs in the rebound.
The Canadians have now made it 11-0, at the end of 2. Yikes. It would be nice if the IIHF changes things up so that goal differential doesn’t play a part in teams racking up scores.

I expected nothing short of a blowout this game, and they’re living up to my expectations. I hope they keep going in the 3rd.
Alex Petriangelo looks like a man amongst boys out there.

Final score, 16-0. Jake Allen gets the shutout in his debut. Gabriel Bourque ties a Canadian record for most points in a single game with 7 (3G, 4A).

MPS was sick in his game. Goal and 4 assists (TSN said that was his stat line, but then the headline said he only got 4 pts. Can someone help me here?) MPS is going to be sick for the Oilers.
On Eberle, I figured with 16 goals, he would have a few goals/ points. Only 1 goal tonight and that was his only point. Should we be concerned? I didn’t watch so I don’t know if they used him less as the game became more of a blow out.
By Racki, December 26, 2009 @ 11:03 pm Racki(Quote)
If you read through this thread, you’ll see mention of MPS’ play throughout this. He had 5 points tonight. Some assists were a bit gimme, but he had a really nice one-timer goal, and set up a couple of other good goals as well.
And Eberle had two goals, not one goal.
And no you shouldn’t be concerned.. he played well. Sometimes it happens. One player had 7 points tonight (Bourque), others probably had a lot less. That’s sometimes how it goes in blowouts.
By Racki, December 26, 2009 @ 11:05 pm Racki(Quote)
Oh and Eberle was also robbed of an assist.. not sure how they managed to do that, but I believe they credited Pietrangelo with an assist that Eberle should have had. Peitrangelo was nowhere near touching the puck.
Just watched it again now too, to confirm… yup.. Eberle robbed of an assist. 3 point night for Eberle, by my books. Doesn’t seem like much in a 16-0 game, but he still played well.
That said, if the points were given out correctly, that would put Eberle in a tie for 3rd in scoring in today’s game. Also, only Bourque had more goals than him tonight.

Ok, TSN had him with one goal. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Didn’t really read through the thread so I didn’t see MPS’s 5 point post haha. Got home from work and watched the trash of a game tongiht was.
