Just for the record, we've already had 3 years of failure. The Pens went through 4 to get where they are (although they actually had 5 very high picks, thanks in part to the lottery after the lockout). They tanked a fair bit better than we did though, getting top 5 picks 5 years in a row.

My point again is just to pick a direction and be committed to it. Tambellini in the off-season showed he was looking for the big deals, and I don't agree with that. Not sure if he is still doing the same now (if he's even active at all), but this team isn't a Kovalchuk away from being playoff contenders. It needs a few cheaper vets.. guys like Comrie.. a strong, shutdown defender in particular and some upgrade on size.

Montreal has already moved a couple of role guys recently. Latendresse probably would have been a good pickup, due to his size and he went for Benoit Pouliot. I'm not delusional, thinking that Latendresse would bring us the cup, but a few small changes like that would go a long way... and those deals are a lot easier to make than the home run deals.

*snipped* In one article he mentions Gilbert, Grebeskov, O'Sullivan, Penner and Hemsky as HIGH PRICED VETS..........high priced, yes. vets, ummm no. Tambi is trying to get stuff done but you gotta realize its not as easy as it sounds. You can't just call up a team and give them Ethan Moreau for a 3rd round pick. A lot of shit factors in.....Anyway I'm not willing to wait 5 years for this team. We are young right now with guys coming up, stay the course.

Not so fast, Johnson ...

After watching the last 2 games by the Oil, I'm not sure that Staples knows what he's talking about. The Oil are only 1 game below .500 and they lead the league in man games lost.

That doesn't sound like a lost cause to me. Besides, teams aren't built with 1 top 5 draft pick. Pittsburgh and Chicago were basket cases for years. The same with Washington.

Tanking one season and thinking it will drastically change things is a pipe dream. If you're ready to sink the team for 5 seasons, then we'll talk.

Hmm. Interesting. I'm not sure what other factors were involved (other injuries, strengths of teams being played, etc.)... but that's interesting. Very easy for it to be a coincidence though. `
