GDT - Edmonton Oilers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs - Aka Sewer Battle 2009

Welcome one and all to Sewer Battle 2009. Who can forget those prophetic words Brian Burke once spat out upon having that soon-to-be-overpaid-bum Penner snaked out from under his nose in which he chastised Lowe for running the Oilers into the sewer. Well, welcome to the stink house, Brian! Watching the Oilers and Maple Leafs go at it should be like watching two bums fight over a half decomposed squirrel…. except where the squirrel has more fight left in it than the two bums. But hey, at least the Oilers stand a lot to gain if they finish dead last.

Currently, the Oilers are on a 7 game losing streak. The Leafs are hot and are currently on a 1-game winning streak! Ok, they are 2-4-1 in their last 7. If this one goes to OT and isn’t settled, Lowe and Burke should scrap it out, Thunderdome style. Two men enter, one man leave. Either way, I think there will be several happy Oiler fans.

Brain: 3-2 Toronto
Heart: A support beam falls from the roof, crushing Brian Burke’s skull.

WJHC GDT – Canada 8 vs. Slovakia 2 – Dec. 29, 2009 @ 6:00PM – Game 3

Destined Oiler Taylor Hall works some magic

Canada vs. Slovakia
Canada Record: 2-0-0
Slovakia Record: 1-1-0
Date: December 29 @ 6:00 PM MST

Ok this lame ass attempt at a GDT is courtesy of me forgetting to do up a nice picture last night and being stuck at work with only Paint at my disposal.

Canada looks to improve their record to 3-0-0 tonight against Slovakia. After tonight, there is one more game to go in the preliminary round for the Canadians (vs. the United States on Thursday). If you haven’t been watching, you really should tune in and take a look at one of our young stars in action (Jordan Eberle). He’s played pretty phenomenally.

Monday Mourning Standings

By , December 29, 2009 8:39 am

Here is a picture of the Oilers powerplay from the row 6 seats I was at.

Well, I’m back at work and am less than impressed with that, I should have taken more time off as this place is a soul sucking factory. I was happy until walking in that front door…that and I’m kinda hungover. I wasn’t around much this holiday break (minus 1 smart-ass comment), but I did watch all the games and thought to myself the entire time that we are pretty lucky we dropped that hack Mac-T and picked up a real coach.

Well this sucks…at least they started to fight. I’m trying to not look at the standings as I post them as it’s probably really depressing.

But how about that Smid guy…pretty good player.

Hopefully everyone ate lots, drank lots and enjoyed their time off! And now on to the standings.

GDT - Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames

This one could easily be known as the Battle of the Suck. The Oilers followed up their 5-game road win streak with 6 straight losses. The Calgary Flames also have been struggling, having won only one of their last 7. They are 1-4-2 in that time frame. Both teams will be looking to snap out of their losing skids with a win tonight. I have to say, I’m pretty indifferent as to which team snaps the skid.

At any rate, the Flames generally have our number, so here are my predictions:
Brain: 5-3 Flames
Heart: 4-3 Oilers

Ok, there, I redeemed myself as an Oiler fan by hoping for an Oilers win! I have to wonder though how much Quinn regrets signing on as coach here. No one said it would be easy, Pat!

Want a glimpse of a 2009 Oilers Draft Pick?

By , December 28, 2009 1:50 pm

Edmonton Oilers prospect Cameron Abney has been traded from the Everett Silvertips to the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for Clayton Cumiskey. Cameron Abney was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers (82nd overall). It seemed like a bit of a stretch for a 3rd round pick, but Abney is expected to bring a big, physical presence to the team and will do the same for the Oil Kings. It’ll be nice to have one of our draft picks so close by to watch. From what I understand, Abney is a pretty respected/feared fighter in the dub. I might be thinking of one of our other picks though…
