“What are you guys doing?” “Puttin’ on the foil!”
Posted By: Steve-O
A little "team toughness" would be nice right about now.
Why did no one jump that piece of shit and teach him a lesson? Regardless of instigator rule. No questions asked, just get in there and start swinging.
God damn it…

Well later on they all slapped him on the top of the head with their gloves when his helmet came off….
His hair probably got pretty messy, nobody likes that

haha, Dropit, you’re pretty alright for a flames fan.
By Racki, November 26, 2009 @ 10:30 am Racki(Quote)
lol, yah, I kind of wondered why no one jumped him after that hit. Who was on the ice? Dustin Penner should have been out there, I think.

Think it’s time to call up Kip Brennan. He would have turned that fuckers face to mush. what is it going to take for the Oil to stick up for their teammates? One of your best players gets jacked hard and you do nothing? Sickening.

I can’t shake a bad feeling I have about Hemmer’s injury. Hope I’m wrong. I guess Tencer said there would be an update after today’s practice.
Caught Sheldon Souray on Hockey Central at Noon today. Gave a really good interview about the team’s leadership, etc. It’s not on this link yet, but looks like they upload the podcasts daily so I expect it will be on later today.

Colin Mcdonald and Ryan O’Marra recalled, Liam Reddix sent down.
By Racki, November 26, 2009 @ 1:02 pm Racki(Quote)
Yah I just heard that too Horpensky. I think the love affair with Reddox has dimmed a bit. McDonald apparently has been a workhorse in Springfield though, so it might be nice to see him up here.
By zackman35, November 26, 2009 @ 2:04 pm zackman35(Quote)
Haha, I’d be up to see that. It’d be quite a wake-up call I think but is he even in the system still?
And on the call-up. That’s pretty sweet if McDonald makes it, it will be his first time in the big leagues. I’d like to see this guy play. He looks a little familiar doesn’t he?

This screams of individualism over identity as a team — and it’s partially why I’m glad the Heatley deal didn’t go down. Heatley would have destroyed the remnants of team mentality that are in that room.
The problem with the Oilers isn’t skill, it’s working together as a unit. It just doesn’t happen out there, and rather than getting their act together, they’re blaming everything under the sun. At least Quinn knows what’s up.
Other teams don’t give a shit about the instigator, they punish stupid farkwads that go after their star players. If we’re not taking care of business in that department, it speaks volumes about how everyone is looking out for themselves rather than their buddies.
By Trogdor, November 26, 2009 @ 2:23 pm Trogdor(Quote)
Yeah, I’m not sure why no one got after him. Linesmen getting in the way only lasts so long, he was alone a number of times after that. Also, since when do you check the scoreboard first to see if it’s advisable to stand up for a teammate? Especially with our record. Do your job, knock his teeth out, then let the rest of the team do their job and back you up with a determined penalty kill.
By Racki, November 26, 2009 @ 3:20 pm Racki(Quote)
Brennan would probably be no better used in Quinn’s hands than MacIntyre was, unfortunately.
The Oilers have enough big guys in the lineup (hell even on the ice that shift) that someone should have done something about it.
By chucker, November 26, 2009 @ 6:32 pm chucker(Quote)
I’ve always been a fan of the enforcer and eye for en eye hockey. On a small team, we need some guys who will just go in and do what needs to be done regardless. This is why MacI could have been usefull, but nobody used him properly.
To use him properly, you wait for a hit like that, wait for the player’s next shift then do an on the fly change and his mission is seek and destroy regardless of what’s going on. Game misconduct, fine, then do it again in two games.
All of the sudden word gets out and there are less hits like that. Same thing with the instigator rule. Worst rule ever.
By chucker, November 26, 2009 @ 6:40 pm chucker(Quote)
Also, can we add an “all of the above” on the poll?
By Puritania, November 26, 2009 @ 6:41 pm Puritania(Quote)
There is something seriously wrong with this franchise. Guys keep droppin’ like flies and not a goddamn thing gets done about it. Isnt this why we got MacIntyre in the first place? I guess I just need to be resigned to the fact that players will continue to take liberties with us and we will continue to bend over and take it.
By Racki, November 26, 2009 @ 6:51 pm Racki(Quote)
You can check as many options as you want
Also, I agree with the eye-for-an-eye part. I mean, we don’t want to go all Bertuzzi or anything, but I’d like to see something like MacIntyre’s hit on Boyd. You fuck with our guys, we’ll do it back to yours, even if we don’t get the original culprit. I know some aren’t in favor of that kind of hockey, but you know what, Hemsky could be out for a while because of someone’s inability to play within the rules..
By chucker, November 26, 2009 @ 7:01 pm chucker(Quote)
Yeah it’s shitty that Hemsky continually gets targetted and the other guys are skating around looking at their laces. Whatever happened to taking a number and then making sure that number left in a heap of pain either from fists or some body smashing constantly.
Even if the guy doesn’t get beaten up in a fight, the coach and the players should not have to be told that “You hit that son of a bitch every shift so he’s asking the coach not to go on anymore.”
I’m oldschool. Maybe a dinosaur, but there are way too many injuries these days from crap that would have been instantly dealt with and not dared to be tried again not so long ago. Remember that players used to play without helmuts, and it was way tougher then, but there was respect. Now the players are decked out like gladiators and have no respect.
There are lots of issues at play, but the lack of ability or willingness to retaliate is the biggest to me.

Tomorrow against the sharks is huge. Please someone tell them to be intense and play possessed and kick ass.Tell Heatley to f**k off lmao. Solid effort I’m thinking Oilers 3 Sharks 2
By Puritania, November 26, 2009 @ 7:49 pm Puritania(Quote)
As much as I really, really hope we smash Heatley everytime he touches the puck and stomp the sharks, I have a sick feeling he wont get touched. He will probably pot 4 goals and the sharks will win 5-0. Before the season started I was looking forward to this game. Now I’m dreading it.

My Quote button doesn’t seem to work, but I’m going all the way back up to Chucker.
I understand where your coming from with your point of view. Hell, I love the old school ‘eye for and eye’ style back. But the issue now, becomes; How ca, you justify a goon paying half is salary throughout a year in suspension costs. I know ‘that’s his job’ But when you take into consideration what he does and the gets fined for doing it. All of a sudden he makes below league minimum. Makes it hard to pay the bills.
By DropIt, November 26, 2009 @ 8:21 pm DropIt(Quote)
Also, this coming from me, so take it how you will. I think the Oilers’ problem this year is confidence; both in themselves and each other. That is why I think the Heatley trade needed tpo go down for Edmonton, regardless of Penner’s current outstanding play.
I mean, they were told/it was shown to them by the personnel of the Oilers, that they aren’t currently viewed strong enough to be a contender. And this fropm the offices. They all wanted Heatley, because they all thought there was a serious change needed. And Heatley was the answer. Basically, if it were me, I would have viewed it as “We like the players on this team, but you guys really can’t seem to do much with what we currently have, we need a change.” 1 month later….
” Hey, that change didn’t happen, but you guys are totally fine as is.”
A locker room mix up is needed. Of course, all in my opinion. As the level headed voice from the south
By Racki, November 26, 2009 @ 8:21 pm Racki(Quote)
That is a good point DropIt, and that’s part of the reason why I wished the NHL would ditch the instigator. It’s easy enough for me to say “well it’s only one game”, but you’ve got a point though. It’s big bucks to a guy like that. That’s why I wish they could sneak a little cash under the table.
Anyways, my answer to that is what MacIntyre did last year. Be the guy stirring shit up. Plow their stars if they’re going to play that way.
By Bostonoiler, November 26, 2009 @ 8:58 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
Its time to Call Atlanta and offer for Kovi and get him here. Penner, Coglino, Smid, a 1st and a 2nd rounder should get it done. Then we sign him to a long contract and have our star. I think Tambi needs to put a call in at least.
On another note,
EklundTwatwaffle said that He has heard the Oilers are involved in a 3-way trade with the Hawks and Leafs, where Sopel is going to the Leafs with a pick. The only way I see the Oil getting involved here is if they get Sharp or maybe Grebovski. Other than that its not worth it. Just we need to make a trade and get a star, just like DropIt said. still I hope for an Oilers win tomorrow night. We didn’t even play all that bad last night against LA. we had plenty of goal scoring chances. I’m confident we will make the playoffs. Remember we still don’t have Comrie, whom has scored 30 goals 2x.By chucker, November 26, 2009 @ 9:36 pm chucker(Quote)
I don’t think guys like MacI would mind the salary cut. Also, this is why I think adding those two lost roster spots would be good. You could have a couple guys that are Kip Brennan/MacI types and not worry about losing one vs. the other.
I see your point though. Cap dollars are lost and so is salary. Not good, but hey, it’s a job in the NHL.
By zackman35, November 26, 2009 @ 9:47 pm zackman35(Quote)
We’ve discussed it before and I think the solution is fairly simple, take out the instigator (like everyone has said) and add a roster spot or two.
Kinda ticked last night how no one went after Handzus sp* though, not even Stortini, JFJ or Moreau went after him. Moreau had a pretty good game last night. That fourth line created some energy although I think they are still holding Cogs back.
By Racki, November 26, 2009 @ 9:49 pm Racki(Quote)
B.O.: Don’t like the trade for Kovalchuk at all. We’re trading Penner, a guy who is on fire right now, PLUS a guy who’s quickly becoming our best defenceman, plus Cogliano, plus a 1st for a guy who’s contract ends this year??? That’s a crazy suggestion. I’d love him here as much as the next guy, but if we’re going after Kovalchuk, I say it happens closer to the deadline and for a lot less. Grabbing him and dropping Penner and Smid and Cogliano would make this team worse. This team needs more to succeed than one guy, especially if we dismantle the team in order to get him.
Also,
EklundTwatwaffle talk should be banned from here. The guy’s a crook and gets it right maybe once in every 100 guesses, and that one time is usually something that isn’t exactly rocket science.By zackman35, November 26, 2009 @ 10:02 pm zackman35(Quote)

I’m at a point where I really wouldn’t mind if we became known as a real dirty bastard team. We’re way to nice and respectful of other teams. I might be way off base in thinking this, but when was the last time one of players was suspended? I might just be forgetting, but I don’t recall anything recently. Its not like getting suspended is a good thing, but it might be an indicator of a team or players, playing on the edge.
