GDT - Edmonton Oilers vs. New York Rangers

PRE-GAME RANT

The Oilers hope to regain some of the offence they had in the first 10 or so games of the season against the visiting Rangers, tonight. The Rangers have been going through some offensive struggles of their own, as of late, having only scored 5 goals in their last 4 games. Both teams will be looking for a bit of a rebound. The Oilers have been on a horrible slide, having only one game (in shootout) of their last 6, after starting out 6-2-1 on the season.

The Oilers are hoping for some secondary scoring from Comrie, who returns to the line up tonight, as well as O’Sullivan who will be tried at his natural center position tonight. In addition, Gagner returns to the top line at center, as Horcoff is out with a shoulder injury. Check the game notes for more information on that and several other injury updates. Picture Racki sent to his boss to explain the absences

Considering that Racki is super sick right now I guess someone has got to hold down the fort and try to match the prolific posting that he does.Β  Stories Edmonton-wise are either not interesting however, or lame.Β  Like we suck, Horcoff is out, Peckham was sent back down etc etc.Β  I suppose those are all valid topics for discussion as well.

I wanted to do this weekly on Monday mornings, even though it has no real value now it will get more and more interesting as the season goes on (or less and less depending on who you cheer for).

But Mondays still suck at work right now, so here it is again on Tuesday.Β  And I missed last week. Oh well.

GDT - Edmonton Oilers at New York Islanders

PRE-GAME RANT

The Edmonton Oilers head into Long Island an ugly mess, having been shut out 3 of the last 4 games (we’re all getting tired of hearing that) and allowing Detroit to walk away with 1 point in a game where the Oilers had a 5-1 lead. The Islanders, meanwhile, have been a hot team as of late, winning their last 3 games over a span of 4 days against their conferences top teams (Capitals (2), Sabres (3), Rangers (4)).

The Oilers struggles as of late, have been to find goal scoring, but I believe a lot of that has to do with inability to protect their own zone. You can’t score goals when you spend the majority of the game watching the opponent handle the puck in your zone. “We have to start thinking about the defensive side again and making sure we don’t give up much,” said Quinn. Khabibulin Mask Dented From Chara Shot

Is there a better advertisement for the 50th anniversary of the goaltender mask? I don’t think so.
