GDT - Remembrance Day - Edmonton Oilers at Buffalo Sabres
We are the dead, short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunsets glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.
– Colonel John McCrae
First off, happy Remembrance/Veterans Day, everyone.
The Edmonton Oilers are coming off of a tough shoot-out loss versus the Ottawa Senators in which they outplayed and outshot the Senators. In what was typically the Oilers marquee meltdown period (the second period), the Oilers actually turned it up and had outshot the Senators 15 to 6, however the lone goal went to the Senators that period. Still yet, the Oilers have 3 of 4 points on the current 5-game road trip so far and hope to get some more tonight in Buffalo.
The Sabres, meanwhile, are coming off back-to-back losses. Their last game was all the way back on Saturday, a 4-2 loss to the Bruins. Friday’s game was a 5-2 loss to the Flyers. The Sabres are currently first in the North East division and will look to regain their form versus the Oilers tonight. Continue reading 'GDT – Oilers 1, Sabres 3 – Nov 11, 2009 – Game 19'»
Just like the white winged dove, sings a song, sounds like she's singing...
Well the Oilers mosey into Ottawa for a game tonight. We got the injuries bad, and it looks like Hemsky is missing another game and Nilsson and Chorney are both out tonight.
We scratched one out Sunday however, and lets see if the boys in copper and blue can get another one here.
I’ll let Racki swing on in and put his usual stats and such here.
Oh, and maybe Duff and Underwood will have a hockey fight in the stands…how awesome would that be? Continue reading 'GDT – Oilers 3, Senators 4, Nov 10, 2009 – Game 18'»
Deep Thoughts - by Racki
A few random thoughts for you guys to chew on:
The powerplay – is our powerplay better off without Hemsky out there? Obviously he’s out most skilled talent, but do the Oil need to simplify things a lot more? Does he hang on to the puck too much in favor of the perfect play? It’s just one game, so I won’t read much into it. But I don’t think this is the first time where I’ve seen Hemsky out and though our powerplay looked better. If you’re Quinn though, do you give it more time without Hemsky on the top unit, even when he’s back? What about Potulny? Beginners luck?
The enigma that is Steve Staios – is he still Steady Steve? He’s looked better to me this year than he did last year. I think a lot of that has to do with less time paired with Smid. I don’t like him paired with Strudwick either, but perhaps Strudwick’s mistakes are glaring enough to distract away from anything Staios may do. I still think him and Souray make a solid pairing though, so I’m looking forward to Souray being back. Continue reading 'Deep Thoughts – random Oilers thoughts…'»
I wonder what was done to piss off the hockey gods?
The pic above is just a placeholder for now, as I think Steve-O might put in one of his world-famous art creations in hopes of sparking a win out of the Oilers. So Steve-O, I’ll leave that up to you, if you want to whip up a picture.
The Oilers are going to try and hand the Avalanche their first home loss of the year. The Avalanche are a perfect 6-0 at home. The Oilers have had only 1 win on the road so far this year (against Nashville) in 6 games. The Oilers and Avalanche have met once this year (Oct 27) with the Avalanche blanking the Oilers 3-0, so the Oilers have their work cut out for them this time around, to say the least. The Oilers are even more beaten up now, as Ales Hemsky joins the list of injured players. He should be back soon, but did not fly to Denver with the team.
