I only had 10 minutes...give me a break
PRE-GAME RANT
Well I gots to run off to a meeting here super soon, and will be in meetings all day so I can’t add much to this post.
I am going to the game tonight…so I predict a victory for the Oil.
Now some Racki-stats:
Racki here…Just a couple more things to add to the pre-game rant. First off, the Kings are coming off a pair of losses – one versus the Flyers, the other a 5-2 loss Saturday afternoon to the Flamers. They’ve had a few days to mull that one over. The Oilers, meanwhile, have won 2 of the last 3 games, including a big 4-0 win on PPV vs. the Coyotes on Monday (albeit not their best 60-min performance), and a 6-4 win over the Avalanche previous to a 5-2 romping by the Blackhawks.

GAME NOTES
- Stone had an extended practice today, however he still doesn’t feel healthy yet and won’t be back until sometime next week at the earliest.
- Nilsson may be ready for Friday
- Pouliot is about 2 weeks away, at the current pace… but do we need him in the lineup anymore?
- Kopitar’s success this year can heavily be attributed to the play of Ryan Smyth, however he is out of the lineup.
1ST PERIOD SUMMARY
17:37 – EDM – Potulny from Souray, Moreau
Off the faceoff win, Souray hammers it from the point and it’s deflected in front by Potulny past Quick
Other Highlights
- Big hit in the offensive zone early on by Potulny
- Kopitar robbed twice in a row by Deslauriers who was out to cut down the angle
- Richardson tries to enter the Oilers zone and is greated by a Souray stiff-arm, and crumples to the ice
- Kopitar again robbed by Deslauriers on a blast from the faceoff circle. Deslauriers whipped out the glove, Fuhr style
- Smid pinches in low, picks up the puck, wheels behind the net and gets a good shot on goal
- Souray gets his 6th point in 6 games since returning from injury
- Not much excitement this period in the offensive zone, so it is nice to leave this period with a 1-0 lead
2ND PERIOD SUMMARY
6:38 – LAK – Simmonds from Jones, Parse
Simmonds just flips a harmless looking shot on net from above the top of the circle and it somehow eludes Deslauriers short side under his glove.
Other Highlights
- Jacques throwing his weight around in the Oilers zone, and O’Donnell decides to drop ‘em with Jacques. Not too many big punches landed in this one, arms were tied up pretty good. A couple shots here and there, but nothing major. Jacques leaves the ice after the fight but is back on the ice later in the period.
- Deslauriers looking a little shakey after that first bad goal
- Hemsky drilled hard from behind into the boards by Handzus.. reminiscent of Regehr’s dirty hit. Luckily, he’s back out on the ice for the powerplay. UPDATE: Scratch that, looks like he’s still missing in action. UPDATE2: It’s official… out with an “upper body injury”.
- Handzus mistakingly pokes the beehive near the end of the period and gets roughed up by the entire Oilers line on the ice at the time. Looks like it won’t be a fun 3rd for him.
3RD PERIOD SUMMARY
15:32 – LAK – Greene from Simmonds, O’Donnell
Greene gets the puck at the point and wires a slapper top shelf on Deslauriers’ blocker side.
19:40 – LAK – Frolov (EN) from Brown, Johnson
Frolov easily out hustles our defense which is pinched in to a puck dumped into the Oil zone.
Other Highlights
- O’Sullivan wheels behind the net and tries to wrap it around and throw it out front for the tip, but it slides past everyone out the other side.
- Jacques dishes it off in the neutral zone just before Greene flies in to hit him, however Greene gets the worst of it as Jacques sees him just in time.
- Gagner picks up the puck on the fly in the slot, dekes out Quick and fires a backhand over the net on a spectacular chance in close. Best chance for the Oilers so far this period.
- Oilers powerplay tonight has been poor at best and the trend continues.
- Jacques yet again throws a huge hit, this time sending Frolov to the ice.
- Loktionov left the ice in considerable pain, leaving his gloves behind. The miracle of PVR tells me that it was some contact from Potulny as they battled for position. Looked innocent though, so not sure what happened. Looks to be a separated shoulder possibly.
- Gilbert carries the puck into the Kings zone and launches a wrister that doesn’t make it on net. Gagner gets the rebound and gets a good shot off as well but couldn’t score.
- Souray throws a decent open ice hit on Williams.
- Jacques again throwing his weight around, this time on O’Donnell in the Kings zone on a dump in. The Oilers are looking to be fairly physical now that they’re behind.
- Deslauriers ROBS Handzus on an excellent chance from the slot. Great save.
- Net pulled now with a min left.
- Gagner gets another chance in close, but his stick was lifted at the right time.

OK Dropit, does Iggy usually go walking around town with his jersey on?
And I really didn’t need to see a closeup of Doughty’s mouth.

This game’s been a bit of a snoozer so far.

Hope Hemmer comes back in the game but looked like another shoulder injury to me.
By gr8one, November 25, 2009 @ 8:55 pm gr8one(Quote)
I didn’t see the hit on Hemmer, was it bad?
By Racki, November 25, 2009 @ 8:56 pm Racki(Quote)
Yah Hemmer was back on the next shift for the powerplay.
Gr8one: Reminded me of Regehr’s hit on him from behind, but not quite as bad. Stick to the back.. crushed him into the boards. He’s fine though.
By DropIt, November 25, 2009 @ 8:57 pm DropIt(Quote)
I think he does LNOF. He looks good in red though. And I think he mentioned he gets a lot of drinks and meals paid for when he wears it.
By gr8one, November 25, 2009 @ 8:59 pm gr8one(Quote)
nice move by Staios.
and geezus Racki, my pool team is just not doing anything for me this week, dammit!
And Dropit, I think you should reconsider Kessel/Elias for Stastny/Bourque!!!
By Racki, November 25, 2009 @ 9:04 pm Racki(Quote)
Yah Handzus – note to self.. you already poked the bee hive.
By LateNightOilFan, November 25, 2009 @ 9:05 pm LateNightOilFan(Quote)
Hemmer played one shift after the hit and then went into the room. He hasn’t been on since.
edit – I should say he continued his shift after the penalty was called per the TOI report but that was it.
By DropIt, November 25, 2009 @ 9:06 pm DropIt(Quote)
I really like both of those players, and it is hard for me to get rif of Kessel after I had him sitting on my bench for 4 weeks. And elias is playing well for a good NJ team. But I will take another look and maybe alter it slightly with a defenceman swap.
By Racki, November 25, 2009 @ 9:07 pm Racki(Quote)
Wow, seriously Gr8one? I’d do that trade… although I have no idea how injured Bourque is.
By gr8one, November 25, 2009 @ 9:13 pm gr8one(Quote)
lol, Brophy gettin’ the gears for saying the words.
Bourques injury doesn’t sound like it’s too bad.
By Racki, November 25, 2009 @ 9:21 pm Racki(Quote)
ok so Hemsky is out still? I’m confused cause I thought I heard his name on the powerplay – or was it just for one shift?
By LateNightOilFan, November 25, 2009 @ 9:22 pm LateNightOilFan(Quote)
He continued that shift and then went to the room and hasn’t been back.
By gr8one, November 25, 2009 @ 9:26 pm gr8one(Quote)
quick is a great name for a goalie.
By Racki, November 25, 2009 @ 9:28 pm Racki(Quote)
An “upper body injury” – aka he had his back squished up like a pretzel by Handzus.
By LateNightOilFan, November 25, 2009 @ 9:28 pm LateNightOilFan(Quote)
Hemmer done for the game. Good Lord. This is like 06/07 again.
By Racki, November 25, 2009 @ 9:33 pm Racki(Quote)
Yup. Even worse though, as currently we’re set to shatter that record.
By gr8one, November 25, 2009 @ 9:43 pm gr8one(Quote)
Dropit, I rejected that trade and upped the Ante a bit…I noticed you are in pretty desperate need of defenseman, so how about one of the best ones out there?
By Racki, November 25, 2009 @ 9:45 pm Racki(Quote)
Jeez, if you upped that ante, how about sending an offer my way.. lol
Oilers PP time.. brought to you by Enmax…
By Racki, November 25, 2009 @ 9:47 pm Racki(Quote)
..also brought to you by Ambien sleeping pills.
By gr8one, November 25, 2009 @ 9:49 pm gr8one(Quote)
lol, well…I upped the ante in what I get back though too.
By gr8one, November 25, 2009 @ 9:50 pm gr8one(Quote)
oh yeah Racki, Hossa scored, too bad he’s on your IR still. :p
and holy shit, according to the ESPN boxscores all 3 of Chicago’s goal’s are shorthanded.
By Racki, November 25, 2009 @ 9:51 pm Racki(Quote)
Yah he’s on the IR because I don’t have the roster space until Thursday to bring him in, unfortunately
grrr
By Racki, November 25, 2009 @ 9:52 pm Racki(Quote)
DAMN YOU! Of course.. the one former Oiler on their team still in the line up gets a goal..
By gr8one, November 25, 2009 @ 9:52 pm gr8one(Quote)
ffs, fucking EX-OILERS!
By gr8one, November 25, 2009 @ 9:55 pm gr8one(Quote)
looks like the hawks are sending a message to San Jose about who the real SC favorites should be.
By LateNightOilFan, November 25, 2009 @ 9:56 pm LateNightOilFan(Quote)
Crap – guess I kind of called that when I first logged in tonight. Didn’t think Greene would be able to follow through though. Of course it would be his 1st goal of the season…
C’mon Oilers, I already watched the Isle lose 2-1 tonight, not you guys too.
By Racki, November 25, 2009 @ 9:57 pm Racki(Quote)
Nice save by JDD to keep it close.
By LateNightOilFan, November 25, 2009 @ 9:59 pm LateNightOilFan(Quote)
Well that sucks.
By gr8one, November 25, 2009 @ 10:02 pm gr8one(Quote)
well, gn all.
By LateNightOilFan, November 25, 2009 @ 10:07 pm LateNightOilFan(Quote)
Good night all, thanks for the GDT – think I’ll watch the Hawks put a beating on the Sharks now. Kind of wish it was the Shark announcers so I could laugh at the crying & whining.
By DropIt, November 25, 2009 @ 10:13 pm DropIt(Quote)
G8: Re trade sent
By gr8one, November 25, 2009 @ 10:35 pm gr8one(Quote)
Done.
Racki kinda had me second guessing it, but really it came down to me not believing in Bourque sustaining his early season pace and since I think Elias and Stastny are pretty much a wash, I’m hoping Kessel outpoints Bourque. either way, barring injuries I can’t see either one of us winning or losing this trade big.
By zackman35, November 25, 2009 @ 11:01 pm zackman35(Quote)
Wow Chicago is slaughtering San Jose… On the Oil side of things it was an alright game but nothing too special. It sucked they lost but ehn. I was a little ticked at the Hemsky thing and the fourth line played pretty good. Brown would sure fit in with Quinn’s style.
By Racki, November 25, 2009 @ 11:32 pm Racki(Quote)
gr8one/dropit – Sorry, didn’t want to sway your guys trade at all, just saying it is a good deal and I would take it..
And sounds like Hemsky is in bad shape.. according to Quinn. But he could just be playing on the league disciplinarian.
2 Goal night for the guy stuck in my IR.. grr. Oh well, could have been a lot worse.
By DropIt, November 26, 2009 @ 6:58 am DropIt(Quote)
Ya, that’s how I looked at the trade too… Kessel’s icetime was hard to pass up, but I figured it was a pretty fair deal, seeing as how Elias isn’t 100%, and I think bourque will stay hot
By Horpensky, November 26, 2009 @ 11:13 am Horpensky(Quote)
My take on this game
- PP still sucks
- Matt @#$%!ing Greene of all people
- JDD was good except he let in 2 softies
- San Jose going to be MAD on Friday
By Racki, November 26, 2009 @ 12:59 pm Racki(Quote)
Quote of the night from Quinn.. not one I like to hear:
“I don’t know if it’s a funk. Maybe we’re playing where we are.”
Which to me sounds like … shut up Steve-O … a coach giving up on the team in a way, like MacT did. If that’s the case, Tambellini better be active on the phones.
