GDT - Edmonton Oilers at Calgary Flames
It’s Battle of Alberta time again, as the Oilers head into the Saddledome for the first time this year. The two teams have already met twice this year, with the Flames winning both games. Both games were very close games. As many will recall, the first game was the game in which Khabibulin bobbled the puck in the dying seconds of a tie game and gave it away to David Moss for the easy goal. The second game was also a close one in which the Flames won in the shootout.
The Flames are coming off of a 6-3 win over Columbus all the way back on Tuesday, whereas the Oilers also beat Columbus 6-4 with the story of the game being the play of the new top line of Penner, Gagner and Hemsky. The Flames are hot at home (4-1-0), while the Oilers are 1-1-0 in only 2 road games so far this year.
From the Edmonton Journal:
There has been lots of talk of retribution for Flames’ captain Jarome Iginla after he accidentally stuck his stick between Souray’s skates and the Oilers’ defenceman plowed face-first into the boards. Souray hasn’t returned and this is the first meeting since that Oct. 8 incident, but Iginla still seems upset it happened. He contacted Souray shortly after it happened to say he was sorry.
“I texted him … I’d want to do that with anybody who was out, but especially when you know somebody pretty well,” said Iginla, who knows he made a mistake sticking his blade between Souray’s feet.
“I have a history with Sheldon. I played junior against him when I was in Kamloops and we see each other in Edmonton (in the summer).”

No cheeseburger for you!
Looks like Mike Comrie will be out for Saturday (flu). Jason Strudwick will likely move to the bruiser line, in place of Moreau, who took over Comrie’s spot on line 2. Theo Peckham has been called up from Springfield, so he will take Strudwick’s spot on the blue line. It’ll be interesting to see who he plays with though. Will Quinn put a rookie pairing of Peckham/Chorney together? Or will he split up Gilbert and Grebeshkov? I wouldn’t mind seeing those two split up for a bit to test the waters a bit with pairings. I’d like to see Smid and Visnovsky stay together though, as they’ve made a pretty solid pairing at both ends of the rink. Continue reading 'Theo Peckham Recalled, New Top Line and More'»
GDT - Oilers vs. Blue Jackets - Oct 22, 2009
UPDATE: ACTUAL LINES HAVE BEEN ADDED FOR THE OILERS, PER OILERSNATION
Game #9 goes down tonight, with the Edmonton Oilers playing host to the Columbus Blue Jackets. UPDATE: Brule is definitely out tonight. Smid is likely back in. Comrie is starting to feel signs of sickness. So to make a long story short, I have no idea what the lines will look like tonight, but a guesstimation is included below, as usual. The one good thing about this team is that it has interchangeable parts. So really even though several players are out, there are a few parts we can put in, in their place and still be fine. Khabibulin gets the nod in goal tonight.
Both teams are off to similar starts with the Oilers 5-2-1 and the Jackets 5-2-0. The Oilers are coming off a close 2-1 win over Vancouver on Monday, while the Blue Jackets were drubbed 6-3 on Tuesday by the Calgary Flames.
Tonight’s game is a 7:30 start and can be seen on Sportsnet West. Enjoy it while it lasts, because November is a crappy month for PPV.

Cover your mouth, asshole! - Flu hits another Oiler
Oilers Injury Update
Sheldon Souray and Steve Staios still remain out of the line up. Word is, Souray could miss as much as a month. Of course, Fernando Pisani and Marc Pouliot are also out of the line up.
Gilbert Brule recently went down with the flu (before the last game, against Vancouver). He will likely miss tomorrow’s game but could be back Saturday. Ladislav Smid also has now caught the flu. It is expected that if either player miss Thursday’s game, Steve MacIntyre will get the nod. He was at practice today playing on the blueline. MacIntyre has played both defence and forward in his pre-Oiler career.

Rumor: Possible Tom Gilbert for Drew Stafford Trade?
I don’t really think this one holds any water, but the first I heard of this rumor was when David Staples of the Edmonton Journal mentioned on his blog Cult of Hockey that a journalist for the Buffalo News was rumor mongering a possible deal between the Oilers and the Sabres. In the Buffalo News article, the reporter cited that an “A source in Edmonton says the Oilers would trade puck-moving defenseman Tom Gilbert in a heartbeat for Drew Stafford, if the Sabres were interested.” Continue reading 'Rumor: Gilbert for Stafford.. Would You Do It?'»
