Today the Oilers scrambled up the lines a bit, due to some missing bodies at practice.

Moreau was in the line up again, however Pouliot, Penner, Staios and Souray were all out. Pouliot was still out with his burning loins, Penner was out because he “needed some work” (Quinn’s words – I presume that means he suffered a minor injury), and Staios was out because he “had his bell rung” (again, Quinn’s words). Not sure about Souray though. Quinn did mention some other players had “pulls and that sort of thing”, so perhaps he was just sitting out resting up a small injury. Edit: confirmed on OilersNation, Souray is just resting a minor injury a la Horcoff before the Stars game.

Anyways, the lines…

Moreau skated with Horcoff and Hemsky. On that note, has anyone else foreseen the Hemsky/Horcoff fading as our top line (no matter who is there, save for maybe Penner)? I think it will be the Comrie line this year that racks up the bigger points. Anyways, back on topic – O’Sullivan Gagner and Jacques played together on the 2nd line. Nilsson Brule and Stone, and Strudwick, Comrie and Cogliano made up the bottom 2 lines. Wow, I may have to take back any jokes I made about the MacBlender. But these are just practice lines, so no sense reading too much into it. Guess we’ll have a better idea after the game day skate what the lines will really be. By the sounds of things, we might even see Penner with Horcoff/Hemsky again for the next game.

Hey Racki… What a start to this season? The Nucks are 0-3 while the Yotes are 2-0 with a recent 3-0 win over the Penguins today… Wow!

I won’t be surprised to see JFJ moved down to the second line. Without Penner on the top line, it’s likely that both Horcoff and Hemsky will see a decline in their point production this season.

yeah, and you didn’t even mention how good Colorado has looked so far, and Nabokov and the sharks are looking real shaky too.

maybe we can just turn the pre-season projections upside down, either way, we’ll still likely finish in the middle. lol

Yah, I was really liking JFJ on the top line, but maybe it’s not quite as good a combo as it seems. Hemsky still hasn’t really shown up (from my point of view) yet though, so who knows what’ll happen when he’s back to his usual self.

The good thing though is despite that we’ve got some guys struggling, there are enough people on this team to get the job done offensively. We might not have the one nuclear weapon like Heatley here, but we seem to have the “death by a thousand paper cuts” offense down. If this team ever fires on all cylinders, it can do some real damage.

And don’t forget about Brodeur looking like a scarecrow in net.

I think the standings will correct themselves after a couple weeks. I remember phoenix doing well last year or the year before before things went back to normal. Other than that soon Quinn will he calling out players like other coaches we are familiar with

  6. Racki says:

If he does call a player out, at least it’ll be someone in the NHL.
