UPDATE: * Cap Geek reports the deal as $1.35M per season for Ladislav Smid.

An update was mentioned in another article, however I think most people missed it….

According to Jason Gregor on Oilers Nation, Gilbert Brule has signed for 800K, 1-year, 2-way and Ladislav Smid has signed for 1.3M/year cap hit *, 2-years, 1-way.

In my mind, that is a perfect deal for both players. In fact, I’m actually surprised that both were signed for this amount, given that we have troubles signing players to reasonable contracts.

Smid was quote as saying the following in regards to his re-signing:

“This is great news for me.  I really enjoy playing for the Oilers. I feel my game is improving every year and I can’t wait to get started again this fall.”

Great news for the Oilers.

So how do we sit with the cap? Common sense would say that Liam Reddox and Theo Peckham are in the AHL come season start, so without their contracts, here is how the numbers look, according to Cap Geek:

ROSTER: 23; PAYROLL: $56.646m; CAP ROOM: $1.154m BONUSES: $1.000m

$1.154M cap room, without dumping any dead weight. Not too shabby! High five to Tambi for getting all our current roster signed under the cap.

   Who? Oh yes, Robbie Schremp Forgot about him. Even so, I’d say his contract will be 750k at highest. So if he earns a roster spot, he’s pretty much not adding anything to our cap. So no worries there.
