Well, figured I’d update everyone on some new changes to Puttin’ On The Foil.
Firstly, as mentioned before, there is a new comic section. So long as I can keep artist Trogdor locked up in his basement, we should see new comic strips every couple of weeks or so. You can now click on “Comics” in the menu above to be taken to the list of comic strips (currently at a grand total of 1).
Secondly, as illustrated by the picture above, I’ve added some new wallpapers. A couple of them are older ones of Hemsky I created a while back, and the rest are from a new set I’ve created. You can access these from the “Wallpapers” link on the top menu. More players will be added to the existing set, and more sets will be created. I know people have all sorts of reses for their desktops, so I put a couple of common reses. If you need something specially made, feel free to send an e-mail to “email@example.com” or use the next new feature added to the site… private messaging.
You can go into your dashboard (click on “Site Admin” under User on the right sidebar of any page), and then open up the profile menu item on the left side. There is a “Private messages” option here you can use to communicate with other users. When you have a new message, it will show when looking at your dashboard. You will of course need to have registered on the site to use this feature.
Gravatars (Globally Recognized Avatars)
Lastly, this is not a new option, but some of you may wonder how to set up an avatar. Well, quite frankly, with this blog software (WordPress) it’s a pain in the butt (more so in the sense it’s not obvious at all), so I’ll explain the steps:
- Be sure to be registered on this blog, and be sure you have an e-mail address attached to your profile
- Go to www.gravatar.com and type in your e-mail address that you signed up here with
- Gravatar will send you a confirmation e-mail, so check your e-mail and click on the link in the e-mail
- Follow the screens on Gravatar to add the avatar
This process is not as easy as I’d like, and not as easy as other forums. So if you get stuck and are unsure what to do, use the Private Message feature, or send me an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org .
Ok, so I’ve updated the blog to have a different URL format. This may mean that some of the URLs might stop working. I’ve spot-checked a large majority of them to make sure they work, however I may have missed some things and passed over something that is broken. If you find that any of the links are no longer working, please use this post as a forum to yell at the stupid-ass admin that decided to change things up a bit (aka Racki). The default 404 behavior (i.e. what happens when a page can not be found) is to return you back to the homepage. So if you’re trying to get somewhere in particular, and it keeps taking you back to the main page.. well.. run, and tell an adult.
This feature has been on for a while. If you find out that you didn’t subscribe to anything but the site is actually sending you mail, please let me know. I only want this site sending you mail if you actually signed up for that. So far no one has complained about that happening, so I have no idea if you are automatically set to subscribe by default. Please let me know by comment in this page if you are receiving crazed-emails from this site without signing up for it and I will look at this feature.
